Dealing with the eBay Seller Hub Rollout

By: Ina Steiner

eBay disrupted the lives of sellers who hadn't yet opted in to its new Seller Hub this week. On Wednesday, when those sellers logged in to list, respond to customers, print shipping labels, etc., they found a completely different interface, making it difficult to complete their selling tasks.

Seller Hub requires customization, which is time-consuming - especially given the lack of documentation. Sellers were left to guess whether or not they could opt-out of the program and how, and there was even confusion over whether eBay was charging a fee for using Seller Hub.

After posting about the response from sellers on Thursday, we wanted to present information that would be helpful as sellers adapt to the new interface:

eBay Seller Hub information page with FAQs (no tutorials or instructions).

This short video from last year gives a general overview.

This longer video gives a more in-depth demonstration, though it's also a year old.

eBay will be hosting a Community chat on August 30th at 1pm PT to answer questions about Seller Hub.

On the one hand, eBay sees Seller Hub as being much more powerful and useful to sellers. On the other hand, sellers are overwhelmed by the amount of information being presented each time they log in, in an unfamiliar format that even uses different terminology (in one of eBay's videos, it explains that "Sold Items" are called "Orders" on Seller Hub).

eBay didn't give sellers a heads up it would be rolling out Seller Hub on Wednesday, and it has yet to communicate with sellers since the rollout to address the many questions sellers are having.

eBay's failure to communicate is compounding the challenge sellers are facing as they struggle with the latest major change the company is forcing on them.

It is a terrible abomination Ina, one that Devin or his new man Cutler will have to directly address, I don't think eBay realizes that sellers are their largest customers and this is going to be something that will doom the company as eBay sellers move to Shopify and BigCommerce.

That is my next move, I will never pay eBay a dime for anything, stores, listings, promoted listings, if they don't produce sales with the MyeBay interface the way it is today, they will never get any of my business again.

There's always going to change, it's part of business life, I have no issues with stuff changing, but a lot of these changes lately with these website interfaces seem to be done by programmers that have no idea what the end user needs, they truly are making a mess, the end result is loss of business,

We got so fed up with the convoluted wacko google adwords account last month, we simply just canceled it, instead of trying to understand it,  and we were using it for several years, the stress and pain of even thinking about having to log into it to change some setting was too much to bear.

it's quite simple, In business you don't vote with an opinion or your voice, you vote with your money,

If one wants to opt out now and its probably only going to be temporary as Fleecepig says eventually everyone will be in. Do this

Go to My Account
Click on subscriptions
Unsubscribe from Selling Manager ( the free version only )
log off
log back on
Go to My Account
Click on subscriptions
Resubscribe to selling manager ( the free version only )
Log off
log back on
The dreaded Seller Hell will be gone.

This worked for us but there is no guarantee that fleecepig won't put us back in. The Seller Hell needs selling manager to work. When you cancel it seller hell no longer has it and will be gone. This a temporary move.

If the pages would've loaded faster I would've given it a longer chance.

It only took placing 1 listing to make me livid over the hassle & time to place that 1 listing.

It was UNUSABLE to me as a seller!

Yes, slow loading is most definitely another issue, these programmers,  test these pages offline and or with super fast connections, and  not with real world connection speeds, making top heavy pages hard to load and extremely frustrating  for the average user.

I'm sure these programmers put on a great performance act in the boardrooms, but these Companies really need to get a handle on this, it's not just ebay, this is an issue we see a lot more these days, and it really does hurt their business, not just ours.

Very slow loading.
Too many clicks to get anywhere important to a seller.
I had to wait until another sale came in and then the "OPT OUT" showed on top.

The one thing that is nice is that they have an area that you add a message.
I played with it until I had it all nicely lined up and
I listed every site (in bold) that I sell on and what merchandise is on there.
Sweeeeeeet!

maxmad, change for the sake of change is pure stupidity.

Sellers want a search engine that works. Sellers want their items to be visible to potential customers.  Instead, eBay give them what they absolutely don't want--an extremely cluttered landing page with "features" that they never asked for.

Just a bunch of folks trying to justify their jobs by constantly coming up with new features that are not needed nor wanted.

Guess what, eBay is doing all of us a favor by forcing us to open Shopify stores and BigCommerce stores, they don't have these kinds of problems and their CEO's are not in fear of addressing their customers directly like the coward we have running eBay.

He won't be around much longer, that is the good news.

I can't think of a recent example that's more illustrative of the utter contempt and disregard ebafia management has for its customers (sellers).

Seller Hub is nothing more than an intentionally deceptive tool designed (and poorly designed at that) to INCREASE SELLER FEES by making us pay at least TWICE to have our listings shown to buyers.

Sellers with stores who exceed their monthly listing allotment and then use Promoted Listings will pay 1) regular listing fee 2) monthly store fee [which actually pays for what passes for 'customer service' at ebafia] 3) Promoted listing fee 4) final value fee.

Couple these layers of fees with reduced TSR discounts ALLEDGEDLY used to pay for the worst TV ad campaign ever and you have one of the principal reasons ebafia is #failing.

But Devin is pushing sellers hub because it is going to help sellers list faster and will make it easier to sell faster on eBay, at least that is what his false claims are telling us.

You can bet I will never open another store on eBay, sellers can take control of their online sales right at this very moment by opening stores on Shopify and Big Commerce, both platforms are light years ahead of eBay and allow sellers to extend their sales to all online product sales platforms.

It is just a matter of time now where you will open a Shopify store and your product will be seen on Walmart, Facebook, Amazon and every other major portal, so eBay is doing sellers a favor by forcing them to look in this much more positive direction that will give them a hell of a lot more ROI than eBay ever will.

Do this and you will never regret leaving eBay.

You are 100% correct, these companies cannot even imagine how much serious damage their programmers are doing to the company, it's pure crazy,

''eBay's failure to communicate is compounding the challenge sellers are facing...''

Change, for the sake of change, is stupid, and sad that it is used all too often as a substitute for showing real progress or innovation.

And change instuted blithely, that doesn't work even as intended, and further complicates process as a bonus, is no less than incompetent.

But change that's not even announced as it's forcibly injected, without so much as even a quick start guide to explain it, furthermore disguised as a 'benefit' while being no more than another parasitic 'take', is contemptuous.

Ironically, for over a decade now, contemptuous is not a 'change' that can be used to describe eBay's treatment of it's paying customers.  But that's the only thing that really NEEDS to.

Wouldn't THAT be a nice 'surprise'?

1) when you ONLY have %3 quarterly growth - shouldnt you have better things to do then play with new unwanted software?

2) you cant trust eBays information in sellerhub, because eBay isnt an honest company. The stats etc are all contrived

3) its too much for most people. most people want simple easy to read stats so that they can quickly post, ship or review. they DONT want a page full of baloney.

Sellerhub may suck, but its not any different then any other part of eBay that sucks. When you have people who in charge with no experience in the job - THIS is what you get.

Thats why Walmart and Google are getting together. 2 powerhouse companies working together to try and get even with Amazon.

eBays answer is to role out the stupid sellerhub ... speaks volumes.

pace, the question is how is this going to improve sales when eBay can hardly serve a web page to users, they have a bad search engine, a shopping cart that does not work?

Sellers are complaining about instant payment being forced on their customers which is hurting sales and this is the next forced idiotic protocol that Devin is pushing so he can have his Sellers Hub to sell promoted listings to seller which is also ruining the marketplace as he is plastering them all over sellers listing pages that they pay eBay to publish.

The best thing all who read this thread can do is go to Shopify and Big Commerce and leave eBay behind, put up your own store on the web and you will have none of the eBay related problems that eBay management themselves have created to try to squeeze more fees out of declining sales volume.

As I have mentioned in an earlier post, I have no issue with changing things for the better, but change must be done carefully, slowly and with great thought of the possible problems,

If ebay needed a new backend interface , they should have first duplicated exactly what the user was use to, while running the new backend, then start implementing new features VERY SLOWLY,

for example Look at www.ecommercebytes.com  they needed an update to the site, the new site still has the look and feel of the old site, but with a new modern backend (wordpress) it was easy to adapt to and in the end we are all happy, making the usual unhappy comments and that's how change should be done.

The people in charge at ebay ,have no idea, or possibly don't care  what destruction they are doing to their customers, or their business ,absolute amateurs, and that's why ebay keeps losing market share, they have no idea, or  they just don't care or possibly both.

There had to be a Tipping Point to convert Tool from a shill to a 'basher!" Looks as if Seller Hub may have been it! There's only so much abuse even the most diehard cheerleader can take.

It's all a distraction from concentrating on real business

I had a phone meeting with eBay - about commodity goods - personal items, deodorants etc.

I got amazing prices, 1 day shipping - but free shipping was impossible due to costs. $2 deodorants can't ship free when 4 oz costs $2.61.

The deal was top of the page for each item with the best prices and eBay told me NO DEAL.  No 30* day returns and no free shipping = no deal.

My eBay prices would have been better then Amazon and I had a deal for diapers next.

eBay told me STFU.

Fine go play with seller hub since you aren't interested in business
