eBay Daily Deals on Facebook Won't Help Sellers

Facebook is running a test in which it is displaying eBay Daily Deals on its Marketplace classifieds, according to TechCrunch. But Facebook is not displaying "regular" eBay listings from "regular" sellers.

That's because select brands and liquidators must enter into special agreements with eBay to participate in Daily Deals. For instance, when eBay ran a back-to-school Daily Deals coupon event in July, it included only 38 sellers, including brands such as Vera Bradley, Jockey, and Samsonite.

The latest Facebook test isn't the first collaboration between the two companies - eBay developed ShopBot, a "personalized shopping assistant" that helps buyers find deals from eBay's one billion listings, which debuted on Facebook Messenger last year.

Facebook told Techcrunch the eBay Daily Deals on Facebook Marketplace was a test. The news outlet said the Daily Deals feature became available to a small percentage of people in the US earlier this month. "For the time being, transaction revenue is not being shared between eBay and Facebook. Instead, users who click on a deal will be linked over to the eBay website within the Facebook app, where they can view more product details, and complete their purchase," it wrote.

Currently many people - including online sellers - use Facebook to buy and sell locally using Marketplace and "yardsale" selling groups, and transactions are generally carried out in-person using cash. The deal with eBay could signal the beginning of Facebook as a platform for ecommerce.

But eBay, beware. Facebook could eventually find it makes sense to eliminate the middleman (eBay), even if that's years away.

One thing seems certain - if eBay sellers get greater visibility on Facebook for their listings, it's bound to come with a price tag.

Small sellers can ALWAYS (LMAO) count on their PARTNER eBay to help them get ahead.

Its nothing NEW, eBay has done these kinds of things all the time - they do it with VERO actions too.

Those who count on/rely upon eBay to "help" them are doomed to failure.

While Amazon and even Walmart arent much better - at least they are other options besides the criminals from San Jose.

I got a feeling that Facebook might buy eBay in 2018 or 2019.

Ah, yes. Good ole Devin and his crack seller experience team "reconnecting" again with small sellers.

They could at least randomly select a few TRS sellers to participate each day.

And they wonder why we despise them.

You'd be better served putting your own business cards or flyers into the packages you send to your buyers asking them to visit your Facebook page.  Waiting around for eBay to lend a hand isn't going to work.

Facebook is a good way to get some notice for your business but  use some sense.

If you maintain a page for your business, let it be about business, the items you're promoting and leave anything else off.  I have known several people to be refused entry into selling and hobby groups simply because the admin of that page didn't like something on the other person's page.  And it was nothing to do with sex, politics, religion or the usual suspects.

I have bought a few things on Facebook but find the site a little too messy to navigate, not to mention time consuming.  I do not click on the ads.

These days, I have less and less time for this kind of thing.  Like eBay, great when they first started, now to be taken with a grain of salt.  Useful but proceed with caution.

It's really up to you to promote your business, especially if you want to maintain any control over how its done.

Here's one of my biggest competitors of aircraft tools.

I wish I knew where he was buying his Boeing Surplus.

Tell this guy eBay doesn't work!

Facebook needs to concentrate on their own marketplace..they certainly do not need ebay to go ruining their popularity and destroying any chance Facebook has to leverage it's own buy it now on posts.

What the heck is Facebook thinking?

And if ebay wants to be on Facebook why not force ebay to pay for ads like everyone else?

Facebook is going to.miss the bus here if they do not hurry up and act.

Anyways..it just proves how completely stupid most ceos are

What a shock, Toolguy!

Your 'partner' is dating another seller? And they're not subject to the search glitch you were?

I see your loyalty and long faithful service are paying off yet again!

I'm starting to understand why you always stand by your business 'partner'.

They CARE! They REALLY REALLY CARE!

We've been using  FB/PayPal for ecommerce since the beginning of the year, quite successfully.

We get the same prices as eBay for what we sell, without the Fees from either party.

So the question really is this: since eBay is feeling the pinch from the FB platform, and they can't really monetize what we are doing without dropping their fees, what do they think they are they doing?

The FB interface is quick and easy to use, the competition isn't cutthroat and the customers are friendly.

Like eBay was before the turn of the century.

^^
There are a lot of peer to peer online sales sites like Letgo that are accommodating sales and people are making a lot of money with P2P sales.  It's like the flea markets and yard sales.  That's the business EB and FB are going after.  Buyers and sellers are finding ways to meet and transact business out of the government's eye.
EB had a site ebayclassifieds that it lay dormant and did nothing with and finally sold it.
From what I read about Facebook advertising, it doesn't work and it's not worth it.  You can join any forum (Etsy, etc.) where people ask if they advertise using FB and they report back no, it's no help to their business.
I belong to a Chicago FB group and every now & then get a popup that somebody is selling something; there are sites like Nextdoor neighbor & Everyblock, where peer-to-peer ads are placed and their free.  And of course there is Craigslist.
Whatever little bit FB gets from teaming with EB will be a small % of what's happening out there now.

Problem with Craig's list is if I put something up for sale, and stress it's a local cash deal only, no checks or bank transfers, if the wigit I have for sale is over $100, within seconds of posting the ad, I will get an idiot with a far away cell phone number texting me, wanting to pay me full value for my wigit, All they need is my bank account number so they can make the deposit. Yeah, right. a deposit FROM my account into their offshore bank account!
I love pretending to be the "mark", so I give them my fictitious bank name [CritonBank, NA] and a bank routing number that is one digit short. If they persist, and I have extra time to screw with them, I will apologize and try another number, then tell them to use a different account [it's bogus too.]
