eBay Auction Promo Ties In with June Marketing Campaign

By: Ina Steiner

eBay is running a promotion to encourage sellers to run 10-day auctions that will coincide with a big marketing campaign it is kicking off on June 4th.

"Our national TV launch is coming ... stay tuned," eBay wrote in the email header of its invitation, which was sent to a select group of sellers. The subject line: "TODAY ONLY! Get 50 additional auction-style listings. Pay zero insertion fees."

eBay explained in its invitation email:

"We're driving buyers your way. A new national eBay campaign will kick off June 4 with a TV spot during game 2 of the basketball finals, followed by additional TV, digital, billboards, in-theater ads, social media, and more List now for maximum exposure and keep listing!"

We noticed eBay published a video on YouTube that ties in with Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean - clearly it's spending a lot on marketing this year!

Here's the gist of the promotion, good only today - Thursday May 25, 2017 (invited sellers must remember to activate the promotion and should read the fine print):

"Invited sellers ("sellers") who activate the offer and then create a 10-day duration listing in the auction-style format or auction-style with Buy it Now format, pursuant to the terms and conditions set forth herein ("Qualifying Listing"), will pay no insertion fee per item ("Promotion") for up to 50 listings during the Promotion Period (as defined below)."

Really, this corporation should be investigated under the RICO organized crime statutes.

The costs of advertising should be borne between ebafia untaxed offshore funds, shareholders, and sellers.

Top rated sellers should not be punished and forced to pay for these ads while sellers offering a lower level of customer service apparently pay nothing directly.

Ebafia should be forced to fully disclose all aspects of these offers including the fact that they make money off the relistings (most of which won't sell) and the innocent ignorance of hobby sellers.

I'm paying for ads both past and present that don't have and never have had any relevance to what I sell.

Ebafia Diamond and Chinese sellers should pay for the since they are who will benefit the most.
