We received an interesting news tip from a 411 subscriber, who noticed you can now filter by "Deals & Savings." The new feature began appearing on eBay search results on Monday (May 1).
Doing a search on eBay, you'll see that underneath "delivery options" in the left navigation bar on search results pages, eBay displays the following:
Deals & Savings
The "Show By" feature is commonly used by buyers (and sellers), since it allows them to find items that have ended. Search results only display items currently listed for sale. Search completed items is helpful when doing pricing research, for example.
Sellers first noticed the new search filter on Monday, but many were confused about what criteria it was using to filter the search results.
One seller who tried searching their own items using the "deals" filter came up empty. "I thought it would pull up everything I had on sale via markdown manager, but nope - have no idea what it is looking for as when I click on their "suggested search" it is a bunch of random listings that make no sense to me and I'd never be searching for."
An eBay moderator promised to find out, but was still waiting for an answer, when a seller said they had figured it out:
"I have done several tests with the filter and found it shows any listings that are priced below the "trending at" price. It doesn't show anything on sale and I saw NO sponsored listings. The ONLY listings I saw were those wit prices under the "trending at" price and since not every item has a "trending at" price, not all will be shown."
Another seller observed, "What I can gather from searching, the deal and savings option sorts out anything used, new other, or with shipping. So basically, if you don't have a brand new item with free, eBay is trying to screw you over with the deals & Savings tab."
Let us know what you think of the new feature, and how do you think it will it impact your traffic?
Postscript: Anyone else astounded by the fact that eBay rolled out this feature to search without telling its sellers or its forum moderators?
