eBay UK Suffers Outage on Sunday

eBay UK went down for a few hours yesterday, but you'd have to turn to social media sites for any clues. There was no acknowledgement on the eBay Announcement Board. One user commented on eBay UK's Facebook page, "UK website down but eBay seem unaware."

eBay responded at 4:42 am ET, "Hi there ebay are aware our technicians are working hard to resolve this," and at 8:34 am ET, it posted "Ebay servers are slowly coming back to life there maybe a few little issues but won't be long before everything is up and running properly."

Outages are a fact of life for any online website, but it didn't mean users weren't frustrated. One seller wrote, "It seems like the constant increase in fees along with charging on postage is still not enough money for this multi billion dollar corporation to sustain a simple website."

UK publications picked up the story - this headline read "eBay DOWN - Users' fury as auction not working across the UK."

It's unclear whether eBay notified any users, including - and especially - sellers who had auctions ending during the period where buyers were unable to bid. As a result, we don't know if eBay will issue any credits as a result of the outage.

Well, the website isn't 'simple' anymore 'cuz they're constantly imposing 'Disruptive Disruption' on it. Many changes are totally useless; others are done to monetize as many eyeballs as possible. When you mess with stuff, you run the risk of breaking it.

If eBay lies and pretends it doesnt happen (ie make it official and put it up on the announcement board) then they can continue to lie and claim "how bulletproof they are as a tech company".

As always, we sellers know the REAL eBay.

Based on eBay's 'official' responses quoted in the OP, it seems as if English is a second language to them.

In the UK.

Ming, more like a Yugo.

And still not an https site.

This is why people laugh when they start crowing about some new technology to wow Wall Street.
