eBay User ID and Relisting Glitches

By: Ina Steiner

Going to eBay's Status Board to check on a report of a technical issue, I noticed that instead of the upper-left greeting displaying "Hi Ina," it said, "Hi Kathleen." Clicking on the down arrow, it showed my correct name and image, but displayed someone else's User ID (presumably someone named Kathleen).

Luckily clicking on Account Settings required me to sign in, and the sign-in page displayed my correct User ID and password - once I signed in to my account, everything appeared normal, and once I signed out, eBay stopped greeting me by name.

It's a bit unsettling seeing my information mashed up with another user's, but the good news is that I wasn't able to sign in to Kathleen's account.

Relisting Errors due to Product Identifiers Glitch
Some users have reported on the Technical Issue board and on Down Detector that they have been experiencing an issue with UPCs. The problem is preventing people from relisting.

"This morning, tried revising one of my listing with a long list of variation, suddenly all the UPCs were gone which was previously there.. ....wasted time re-inputting all the UPCs but can't submit the listing...it keeps showing the message "missing UPC".

"I have been having exactly the same issue, every EAN number on the items that we are revising or relisting has gone completely."

Report on Ecommerce EKG that sellers are unable to relist books - it may be related having to do with ISBN numbers.

Sorry off topic but...

Can't wait till certain readers here pounce on the idea that this is a good thing because they hate relists and think it is the downfall of ebay. And to make it clear I am not talking about new items. What they don't understand is that not all buyers or sellers argee with them. A new collector is born every day and a old collectible is new again at a moments notice. People lose their favorite items all the time and want to replace them. Can you image a library throwing a book away if no one has checked it out in the past 30, 60, or 90 days!! If we sellers knew what to list and when to list it, we would all be rich. Until then we relist!

@KandJ - I assume you're referring to the 49th state.

@KandJ

I'm with you.  My items are old, obsolete stock, with a limited quantity of buyers.  my Buyers actually have to have the piece that my parts FIT TO, in order to want to buy from me.

Since so few of those pieces exist (in lots of instances), I am forced to re-list and re-list hoping to catch them when they happen to stroll by eBay, or, taking your comments a step further, catch them when they are just NOW in the market for something that broke and needs replacing.  They didn't need it when I listed it two years ago, but yesterday their item broke, and my re-list can be a godsend for them.

I do understand the other point 49th (AK) makes, but I feel it is way overshadowed by NEW Buyers with wants, or OLD Buyers with NEW wants.

Now to Ina's actual topic.

I have seen lately lots of the browser tabs at the top of my screen of my items showing something 100% entirely different than my item.  The page opened to my item is correct, showing my item, but the browser tab shows something incredibly way off the beam from what I have.

And, while on the subject of eBay glitches, I STILL can't get those dimbulbs to renew my PP debit/credit card on 3 accounts, while they're ok with renewing it on a 4th.

Talked to PP the other day, and they checked the reason for refusal, and they say eBay's system is trying to input the OLD expiration date, when I am typing in the NEW expiration date.  Just can't figure out how to translate that into Filipino so they can actually understand...

Labels?  Printed 18 labels through Bulk Label printing yesterday, and number 19 got kicked out, not paid/printed.  Why?  Well, of course, no reason is actually given in this process, so we are required to guess.  I checked all the details that I've learned over the years that could cause a refusal, and this one met NONE of them.  So, tried again today, expecting it to fail again, but this time it worked.  With NO revisions to anything.  So, why did it fail the first time?  And only one out of 19 failed?

Scheduling listings tonight with my 3rd party lister, and kept getting Gateway Timeouts on individual items from the eBay API.  Scheduled listings in batches (99 batches of anywhere from 1 item to 20 items) and had timeouts in 21 of those batches.  I've never had more than 2 or 3 of those timeouts in similar quantities of listings in 12 years.  Most of the time, I've had none at all.  Up to about a month or so ago, I noticed a few, then a few more, and now?

eBay's programmers better get started chewing some new gum to use for patches - the old gum has hardened and failed.

I had a BIG  problem  over the past  few  days--ALL of  my Passwords  FAILEd  on ebay.  No  where  else.  My SAVED PW's  were  fine--EXCEPT  on ebay.  On a few of  my 5 Accounts I had to RESET  numerous  times.

Seems petty  but  it  is  annoying and also denied me access TO these  accounts when I  NEEDED  to tend to  whatever  activity  might  be  going  on.  I  have  also  had  several Best Offers  turn up  AFTER  the item  has ended;  which is  kind  of pointless  esp  since I put NO trust  in  trying to use  ebays Messages etc  systems  to reach  these  potential  buyers.

AND ---YES  to relists;  I  have  just  sold  in the past  hour 3 re-lists;  two  of  them quite  old.

Glitches?
Has anyone had this issue?

I sell clothes. Most everything ships in a Priority FR padded envelope, if it fits. Never had an issues & have been using this method for years..

Then when all USPS prices went up again last month, I decided to start using 1st class on things that weighed under 13 oz.
These increases every year are just getting ridiculous....

So I purchased 500 of those gray plastic envelopes so I could start shipping things 1st class..

I went to bulk edit near 200 listings to change the weight & the shipping method (from Priority to FC & 15 oz. to 13 oz.)

The "only" thing that changed was the shipping method..
Not 1 single weight changed from 15 oz. to 13 oz. or less..

I did it all over again & again, the weight would not change...
I worked on this for 2 days & finally gave up.

I wound up bulk editing everything to 1 flat rate charge of what the highest FC charge would be going anywhere..

I'm so stressed over this mess because my only other option is to revise each listing one at a time so I could change the weight..

I had a buyer the other day who made a purchase & paid 6.65 for a FC package going to VA from PA because the calculated weight was 15 oz.

It should have only been 4.29 at the very most...

Also, I thought USPS upped the weight on FC from 13 oz. to 15 oz.

If they did, EBAY never updated their calculator...

''The Relist-Complainer'' fails to realize that what to him is stale reappearing stock to me the seller is often times actually vibrant selling items where I am fortunate to have MULTIPLES. I simply relist the same exact item after each sale or listing expiration.

I guess he's the fish and I'm the fisherman. Understandably, he gets tired of seeing the same old worms dangled in front of his face but fails to see all the fish I keep pulling into the boat with that ''same ole'' worm (this makes me and Ebay happy). Every time you cast  your line and relist you have a new audience sitting down at their computers.  Long live the RELIST!!

New ''glitch'' for me started two days ago when I was listing a new item on eBay.

After preparing the item description on Microsoft Front Page, I copied the description in HTML text and pasted it into eBay's decryption box with the HTML tab.

After clicking on the Standard tab, the once neatly prepared description now is filled with many unwanted spaces.  The appearance of the description goes from professional to haphazard.

Does anyone know if this something eBay has changed something recently or could it be my Internet browser (Chrome)?
