eBay Messaging System Goes Down for Hours Friday AM

eBay's member-to-member messaging system went down Friday morning. Users say they are seeing the following error message: "The service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again in a few minutes."

The problem, reported on Ecommerce EKG, is impacting sales - according to one reader, they are unable to reply to a potential customer.

Another reader reported, "trying to send a message either through "My Messages" and/or through the "Ask seller a question" both result in "Email send failure.""

Another reported they had also received a message that they had reached their message limit.

One message thread on the eBay boards was opened at 7:27 am ET and highlights the frustration users are having about frequent technical glitches.

Sellers are also reporting the problem on Twitter by sending messages to @AskeBay.

They better stay away from the machine learning.

It may realize one day (self aware) how bad eBay REALLY is and go off to work for Amazon.

This morning I was amazed to see new messages dating all the way back to July 14th.  One buyer had emailed me three times. She must truly think that we "checked out"

eBay continue to hold their sellers to a high bar which they themselves can not even maintain.  

Have we heard any apology from eBay?  Do we expect to?  I would not even know of this had it not been for ecommercebytes and my 9 days old messages that populated my mailbox this morning.

I agree with you wholeheartedly regarding eBay, but will you please not disparage and insult my two favorite repair solutions ''spit and duct tape'' by comparing them to the disaster that is eBay.
