Etsy sellers are worried once again about privacy issues, with some sellers stating that Etsy is publishing their personal names on customer email receipts instead of their company names. In addition, some buyers are complaining that Etsy is charging them multiple times for the same order, and sellers are dealing with refund issues.
On Friday, a seller started a thread on the Etsy boards, "Yesterday I noticed that the email receipts being sent to customers once they placed an order now show my personal name instead of my company name. It's not at the top of the receipt, but at the part where it says: "Additional Information from (your shop name):" Several other people have reported having this problem, and it seems to only be people using the standard Etsy policies," she wrote.
An Etsy moderator responded on Saturday morning, saying she was sending a report to the Etsy team.
One seller said their full name should NOT be pulled as it's only available on the credit card and billing information on Etsy. Other sellers gave myriad reasons why they were concerned about the new practice. A similar incident in March saw an outpouring of outrage from sellers.
Etsy users are also dealing with payment issues. It appears sellers are experiencing problems with refunds, while Etsy appears to be charging some customers twice for the same order. In response to a post from Thursday describing the latter issue, an Etsy moderator wrote this afternoon (Saturday):
"I know most of you are sellers reporting this issue in the thread, but if your buyer can send us a screenshot of their CC statement reflecting the duplicate charge, we can investigate further. If they can add something in the subject line like "Duplicate Credit Card charge for order" this can help us gather the reports."
The problem follows on the heels of a major payment processing issue caused by Etsy's third-party payment processor, Worldpay that stretched out for over a week.
Update 7/17/16: Etsy originally denied it was withdrawing funds a second time for single purchases made days earlier, but buyers are refuting that. We've just sent an inquiry to Etsy PR and will continue to follow this major problem.
Update 7/24/16: Etsy issued another update on 7/22/16 about the Worldpay payment processing breakdown, which you can read on the Etsy announcement board. |
