Shipping Consolidation - Good or Bad for Sellers?

By: Ina Steiner

Stamps.com will acquire ShippingEasy for $55 million, which could impact online merchants who print USPS postage online. As we point out in Tuesday's Newsflash, the move puts Stamps.com, Endicia, ShipStation, Shipworks - and now ShippingEasy - all under the same corporate ownership.

These are solutions that help sellers consolidate orders from the multiple channels on which they sell, print postage, and send back tracking information to the marketplaces and to buyers - automatically. The solutions are popular for sellers doing even moderate volume. And some of the solutions support additional shipping carriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL)

Rivals are not pleased at the power Stamps.com now wields, and they didn't mince words in talking to EcommerceBytes.

We want to know what online sellers think. Have you seen any impact of a Stamps.com acquisition on your service provider?

Are you concerned about the consolidation in the shipping solutions industry, or do you think it has the potential to improve efficiencies of Stamps.com-owned services?

Read the article in Newsflash and leave your thoughts below.

Of coarse the end game is a monopoly by Stamps.com.
Why are regulators asleep at the switch ?
This is happening across the board.
Cable, radio, etc...
We need REAL Regulators ASAP.

It will only get worse when yet another giant purchases Stamps.com

Monopolies are NEVER good for consumers.

NOT GOOD!

Where's the regulatory?

Why isn't the post office also updating to make sure you can print all types of labels. Especially First Class Mail.
You would think that they are offering these services that their website should handle all the services.

With the inefficent post office trying to play catch up I wish Stamps all the best.

We have used only them for the past 10 years and have yet to have a problem.

Ebay, Paypig and the Post Office non customer service could take a clue from Stamps Customer Service

We won't get real regulation and competition until Americans stop worshipping at the altar of moneyed interests.  People just don't get that monopolies are bad until it hits close to home.  But all the while it's "government stay out of my way and let me do whatever I want to whoever I want because there's no way that could ever come back to bite my shortsighted ass."

I could care less. These fulfillment/shipping solutions greatly increase our efficiency (we use Shipstation), and completely blow away ANYTHING that USPS offers.
I wish Stamps.com all the best, as we have ZERO issues with them whatsoever.

I have not used any of the others, only stamps.com but I hope they do not raise fees once they eliminate the competition. I have not had any problems with stamps.com thus far.

I dislike monopolies, just as much as the next person. However, Stamps seems to be an exception in my hypocritical mind. Their software has always worked well for me. If there have been issues, they've always fixed them in a timely manner. They at least seem to care about their customers. Hope this is something we don't later regret.
