We're receiving feedback about eBay's new branded shipping supplies, and here is something you should know if you're tempted to order eBay packing tape: it stinks - literally.
"New eBay branded tape is very stinky," a reader told us. "I threw away a case of Chinese made tape bought off eBay because it stunk so bad, I suspect it had formaldehyde based adhesive. Now I get my eBay branded tape and it smells exactly the same."
eBay is giving Store owners coupons good toward the shipping supplies to take some of the sting out of higher monthly subscription fees, but sellers pointed out another problem: you have to use the entire coupon in a single order.
For instance, a reader told us they bought $15 worth of eBay branded boxes with their $25 coupon - and eBay kept the difference!
Many sellers had questions about how to find and use the coupons - eBay posted an announcement
last week explaining the process on the eBay Announcement Board. Note that the coupons are only good on purchases made from the eBay branded shipping supplies store
Reading feedback left for eBay's shipping-supplies store is informative - it's got a 99.8% positive feedback rating, with comments such as, "Thank You, Love the Envelopes & packing tape."
Incredibly, eBay has perfect Detailed Seller Ratings even though it received complaints such as: "Tape in ad shows white background & actual tape is CLEAR with the EBAY LOGO"; "Slightly thicker than a single sheet of paper. Going back to ULINE.COM"; and "Shipping was fast, price good. Bad odor and "splits" frequently when it's cut."
And eBay being eBay, there are also lots of sellers selling eBay-branded supplies.
Readers had plenty to say when eBay announced the new store last month, as you can see in this EcommerceBytes Blog post
. Now let us know about your experience purchasing and using the eBay-branded supplies from its shipping supply store.
