This is Why Amazon Reset Some Customer Passwords

Amazon sellers should be aware that the marketplace is requiring some customers to reset their passwords. According to Venture Beat, Amazon notified the users on Saturday that it had changed their passwords.

eBay sellers know the negative impact a password-reset can have on traffic and sales, but the good news in this case - it wasn't a breach at Amazon itself.

"The e-retail giant made the move after discovering a list of email addresses and passwords that had been published online and suspecting that some of its users' credentials were on that list, given that certain people use the same passwords for multiple services," the online publication wrote.

Last year Amazon reset some passwords for a different reason, you can read about that incident in this Newsflash story.

It's troubling that poor practices - using the same password across multiple sites and services - could have an impact across so many sites. (But how do you keep track of all your passwords, anyway?) If there's any chance you used the same password on multiple accounts - even accounts you no longer use - it's probably a good idea to change them.

And remember to beware of phishing emails from scammers pretending to be Amazon - don't click on links to sign in or change your password.

Lastpass, Keepass and other similar tools make this incredibly easy.
