eBay Promo Requiring Free Shipping Catches Sellers' Attention
By: Ina Steiner
eBay's latest promotion is apparently disappointing sellers due to its restrictions. While it's by invitation only, it appears to have gone out to lots of sellers, many of whom are discussing it today.
The biggest challenge appears to be the requirement that sellers offer free shipping in order to participate. Another challenge is that sellers must list items from scratch. Not only are sellers excluded from relisting, they can't use the "sell similar" shortcut either.
Sellers are wondering how they would have the time to create 3,000 listings in just 5 days - the promotion runs from Monday, March 2 through Friday, March 6th. And of course many sellers have restrictions on how many items they can run at one time.
Have any thought about this latest promo? Is there room in your margin to offer free shipping? Since there's no listing fee, would you consider raising your prices on these listings to absorb the cost of shipping any sales you make?
Let us know - we'll be writing up details for the next EcommerceBytes newsletter. You can find details of the promotion on the eBay website
- be sure to read all of the fine print.
