There are reports from users who say they were unable to access eBay overnight, and EcommerceBytes received an EKG report overnight. One reader told us, "The site has been down intermittently and tonight it's already been down over an hour and a half, prime evening hours."
The website IsItDownRightNow shows some issues with eBay in its chart, but the telling sign is the number of comments from people who are having problems either accessing the site, signing in, or using certain functions. Another site, DownDetector, also shows problems and comments from users.
Slashgear wrote last night that an eBay outage began at approximately 8 minutes after 10PM Central Time. Some users who were able to access the site reported the problem on the eBay discussion boards.
The problem isn't just one of accessibility - some users can get to the site but can't use certain features. eBay has not posted any issues on the systems board set up to report issues, but that's no surprise - it rarely uses that board any more other than to report weekly maintenance hours.
eBay had a similar problem last year. eBay has apparently since scrubbed its Outage Policy with a generic message: "eBay's highest priority is our members' trading success. There are many events, from natural disasters to power outages that can disrupt bidding and finding on eBay. If a lengthy outage occurs, information about the outage will be posted on the Announcements Board."
We're able to access and login to the site even as others continue to report problems. We've got an inquiry into eBay about the nature of the problem and what happened to its outage policy. |
