eBay is rolling out a fix to a problem in which it displayed free shipping on listings in certain situations. Readers reported the problem on the Ecommerce EKG board on July 3rd.
EcommerceBytes asked eBay for information about the glitch that was being widely reported, and we reported on the problem on July 11th. Free shipping was mistakenly appearing on multi-quantity items with the "additional items ship free" option.
Spokesperson Ryan Moore told me this evening it was a technical issue that eBay was in the process of fixing that is impacting listings containing calculated shipping with multiple quantities. "While the actual shipping calculation on the checkout page is correct, there is an erroneous "free shipping" designation within the view item flow for certain items. We're in the process of rolling out the fix," he said.
Reports continued to come in from sellers impacted by the problem as recently as today.
I had asked what sellers could do about the problem and whether eBay would cover the cost of shipping for sellers impacted by this glitch.
Moore said eBay was still gathering information on the amount of listings this impacted. "Again, this issue only impacted listings containing calculated shipping with multiple quantities within the view item flow. The shipping calculation was correct on the checkout page before the transaction was made."
He said if a seller has concerns around potential defects directly related to this particular issue, he encouraged them to contact a member of eBay's customer service team.
