eBay is experiencing severe technical issues, which it acknowledged on its UK Announcement Board. It has yet to acknowledge the problem on the U.S. board. It's a tough day for online sellers, as reports surfaced that the Craigslist site was hacked on Sunday and is still experiencing problems.
eBay UK posted the following announcement at 5:06AM ET.
Hello, Due to a technical issue, some eBay customers may notice a problem with key areas of the eBay site.
We’re working to solve this problem and apologise for any inconvenience. Please try to complete your transaction at a later time. Regards, The eBay Team
eBay sellers have reported via email, Ecommerce EKG, and the eBay boards that seller pages are not loading. A seller in the UK wrote at 4:30 am ET that he was unable to access the eBay SYI page so was unable to list new items for sale. The timing couldn't be worse in the run-up to the busiest shopping period of the year.
On Ecommerce EKG, a reader said the seller page was totally blank. "Haven't been able to access it for over an hour. Photographs on auctions, not just mine, are not showing or not enlarging if they do show."
On the eBay Technical Issues board, a seller reported a similar problem with blank pages. "For the past several hours (between 1am and 6am) I've been not been seeing my seller page appear....it's blank. However, I can get some pages, like "Purchase History", Feedback, Account, Messages, etc., but my selling page is nearly blank. Does anyone know if eBay is having technical issues, as I can't access any customer info or see any of my auctions in my eBay summary. 85% to 90% of the page is blank."
Even more perplexing for one reader - he is getting the German version of the "page not responding" error message when attempting to edit or upload.

eBay has been experiencing a lot of disruptive technical issues this year. One reader said in an email to EcommerceBytes this morning, "So many "down" times it is like the 90s all over again (but on a bigger scale)," a reference to eBay's well publicized technical problems from the 1990s.
As a result of today's technical issues, he is unable to take advantage of eBay's free listing promotions.

As the above screenshot shows, eBay has been having a busy morning responding to queries about today's technical issues.
Update 11/24/14 12:42 pm ET: eBay posted a message on the eBay.com announcement board at 12:26 pm ET: "Some customers may be experiencing issues in creating or modifying listings. This issue should be resolved shortly. eBay appreciates your patience and apologizes for any inconvenience caused."
The company had updated the UK announcement at 9:47 am ET with the following message: "Following a maintenance issue, some customers may notice interruptions to editing or finalising listings. Buying and selling on eBay continues as normal, and this maintenance issue should be resolved shortly. eBay appreciates your patience and apologises for any inconvenience caused." Update 11/24/14 7:03: At 5:17 pm ET, eBay spokesperson Ryan Moore provided an update stating the issue was resolved. |
