eBay CEO John Donahoe recently wrote an essay about taking time away from daily work for undisturbed days of thinking. Apparently he's also taking some "writing days" in addition to his "thinking days" - he's written one essay a month on LinkedIn for the past 4 months, and contributed a piece to LeanIn.org.
An excerpt of his latest essay showed up on the eBay blog with the title, "John & Eileen Donahoe: "We Leaned Into Our Marriage."" There, he offers five bits of advice about making their partnership work. He also shares situations in which he thought he would have to put his career on hold because of family obligations.
It's interesting to read, since many people turned to selling on eBay for personal reasons such as having to become primary caretakers of children, spouses or parents.
But what does all this writing and self reflection mean? Wall Street seemed satisfied this year that Donahoe had accomplished his promised turnaround, as we've recently covered. Is Donahoe entering a new phase in his career, and if so, will it be inside or outside of eBay?
Let us know what you think of CEOs who open up about their personal and working lives. And, since he's probably looking for fodder for more of his monthly LinkedIn essays, what would you like John Donahoe's next essay to cover?
