eBay Launches New Shipping Calculator - FedEx Included

By: Ina Steiner

eBay launched a new shipping calculator today that for the first time includes the ability for sellers to display calculated FedEx rates in listings. The new shipping calculator walks sellers through the process of entering information - including the packages weight and dimensions, and then displays a chart showing various rates from the USPS - from Economy, Expedited to 1-Day. Tabs at the top of the chart lets sellers select FedEx or UPS and see the rates each one offers.

eBay also displays a preview of how the chosen service would appear in sellers' listings - for example, for a package going from Massachusetts to Phoenix via USPS Media Mail, it will show "USPS Media Mail 2-8 business days," while selecting FedEx Ground will display, "FedEx Ground or FedEx Home Delivery 1-5 business days; and selecting UPS Ground will display, "UPS Ground 1-5 business days."

eBay also lets sellers toggle between retail rates and the discounted rates they receive if they print and ship through eBay Labels or PayPal Labels.

eBay said the new calculator offers a friendlier, more intuitive experience.  As of yet, there's only two threads on the eBay boards about the calculator (with negative comments). This poster clearly outlined the changes that are slowing her down, including the requirement that sellers input the exact dimensions of the box they are shipping.

Let us know what you think of eBay's new shipping calculator once you've used it!

Why not fix what they have first before adding.....Like I said before. ebay is getting desperate. Somehow they are going to get paid by fed ex for this move.

I certainly hope that this is an OPTIONAL service--as in--the SELLER has to opt in to offering this service!

For me this would be a difficult thing as there is NO FedEx around here--in rural areas there are FedEx DELIVERY trucks--that DO NOT PICK UP.  There are someplaces that do have FedEx picks ups but you have to make special arrangements and hang around and wait for them.  Or if you happen to have a FedEx drop box on your travel route that could maybe work==if the item was SMALL enough to FIT.

Otherwise you have to seek out a STAPLES or similar place to ship from--if I needed to send something this way it would be--if I had no other REASON for going to Staples or the towns they are in--a 50 MILE round trip.  Lets see;  gas is at $3.79 a gallon;  my car gets 25 miles to the gallon;  that already $8 added onto the cost of the "Shipping" that EBAY wants me to make FREE!!!!! Not to mention wear and tear on my car;  interruption to my DAY---this is at LEAST a one hour trip ONE WAY---

Somehow I am just not feelin' the looooove for this.

@comet

It isn't only for FedEx.  If you take a look at the pic in the OP, you can see a tab for USPS, FedEx and UPS.

FedEx has a charge for pickup. It cost a few dollars.
Is that Shipping Cost?
or the Cost of Doing Business?
Great way for buyer to give 1 DSR's because they don't understand shipping cost and thinks it to much money.

If a seller can't cover their cost they don't need ebay.
Great time to scrap the shipping DSR system.

We list hundreds of items each month we don't know the package size till things are ready to ship most times
This addition of package size is going to cost me ton's of money in labor to calculate prior to listing
Does Ebay really not know how seller's use Ebay?

We have been shipping UPS largely with calculated shipping.

Because of the contract ending between ebay and UPS we have been sent to Paypal to print labels. No problem.

We'd like to use FedEx ground or Home Delivery, which are probably cheaper than UPS.  But once we post a listing with UPS I can't see a way to do FedEx.   I tried.  It's not there on Paypal.

This is just ridiculous and ebay/Paypal have just got to get their act together.  If I posted a listing with UPS but later want to use USPS no problem, just click ''choose another carrier''.  But no FedEx.

Can't they play nice?  I like the connected shipping and automated tracking we have been using with UPS, but why can't I make a business decision to ship FedEx if I want, at shipping time?

Because of a computer programming problem at ebay.
