eBay Turbo Lister Glitch Leads to Lower Exposure in Search

eBay sellers are frustrated over a glitch in Turbo Lister that's impacting Item Specifics, which are crucial to getting exposure in search results. Turbo Lister is a free listing tool that lets sellers edit listings in bulk. A moderator acknowledged the problem on an eBay but has not provided an ETA on a fix.

In January, a seller wrote on the eBay boards that Turbo Lister was arbitrarily dropping Item Specifics from a few random listings, but was not letting her reenter the Item Specifics. Another seller replied, "If I bulk edit my listings to change category, format, etc., the specs are retained but if I edit a single item it drops all the item specs and then won't allow me to access the radio buttons to put them back in."

Two weeks after the first report, an eBay moderator wrote, "I do apologize for the inconveneince (sic) this has caused you. This is an issue we have just recently had reported to us.  Our developers are aware of this at this time and are working to get this issue resolved."

On February 14, another moderator posted that eBay did not yet have an estimate of how long it's going to take to fix the problem, "but our Tech team is working to correct it as quickly as possible. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused."

The same day, the problem was reported on Ecommerce EKG: "Ebay's TurboLister continues to have problems, won't allow editing of item specifics. If item specifics are missing then you can't bulk upload from TurboLister but yet Turbolister says item specifics are completed???? Anyone? Tried all available work-a-rounds and nothing works so you have to either find a different upload program or enter items directly into Ebay one at a time!"

The seller wrote today to say the problem is causing her listings to get reduced exposure in search.

"I always use item specifics. This morning I uploaded from Turbo Lister a very collectible set of glassware that should have had at least 5 immediate "views" for those that have an automated search set up and there was only one. So I went in and manually entered item specifics on my item I uploaded using Ebay's revise your listing and after completing the item revision, checked the number of views and it jumped to 6."

One seller on the eBay boards said, "My workaround adds an extra 5 minutes to EACH new listing I have to do."

I sent an inquiry to eBay's Ryan Moore this afternoon to see if there is a workaround and to learn more about the problem and expected-fix.

Item Specifics (and product attributes on other marketplaces) are important to getting found in search - how much attention do you pay them?

eBay devotes all their programming talent and resources towards new features such as changing search result and item listing pages at the expense of timely repairs for existing systems.

Glitches such as this which negatively impact a sellers visibility in search and cause sellers to have to list and relist items is exactly what eBay wants.... more revenue from listing fees.

Here at eBay... WE are not happy until YOU are not happy.

I see ebay will soon announce a new and exciting way to customize My Ebay.

This is the kind of crapola they work on rather than fixing the hundreds of SERIOUS site problems that impact sellers' bottom lines.

Collective attention deficit disorder.

The house that will never be built.  Still adding additional stories onto the house even though the plumbing and the wiring are not working and the foundation is crumbling.

Feh! Why bother? Hardly worth the effort any longer.

TurboLister has always (ALWAYS!) been clunky and thrown together by various committees of first-year programmers.

Given enough patience and time, persistent sellers could learn its quirks and still manage to work around the faults and foibles... and end up with a marginally functional tool for uploading listings.

Now? Good grief! TurboLister is the redheaded-stepchild! Forgotten, neglected, out of date, unloved, unwanted.

Phooey! If I was ever inclined to list on eBay again, it would have been by way of the TurboLister software.

But now? Ugh! What a mess! It's just not worth it.

I have a special program that looks at our database of stock and creates a file we can import into Turbolister, it used to save a lot of time, but eBay keeps screwing us around... We're working on new ways to get our site working and running instead of worrying about eBay anymore. With sales now at 33% of what they used to be, we're just another rat slowly escaping a rapidly sinking ship... Ughhkkk. (Not sure what creatures remain on the ship but they are a lot more icky than a rat could ever be!)

This is not just a Turbolister problem.  It is an ebay listing problem.  I don't use Turbolister and have this problem.  It has been ongoing since October.

TurboLister is way ahead of File Manager format for listing IMHO.

I spent the time to code & generate the .CSV to import my MSAccess entries to TurboLister. What I can say is TurboLister works, for the most part.

It has gotten slower as time goes by (used to upload at 70kbs/sec, now its down tow 30-35kbs/sec), and it is quirky.

Bad sorting features, does not let you review the fees unless you want to recalculate them, etc, etc.

But, it beats listing each item or paying a 3rd party $20/mo or more for the same result.

Then again, MY software is over 10 years old, but functional.

It's like Utah Phillips' Moose Turd Pie,

"MY GOD,
that's moose turd pie!

But its good though."

ebay possibly purposely created so-called glitches to trip off sellers TRS.   It definitely don't have quality control on their software releases and revisions.  It relied on sellers hit by the bugs to report what is going wrong.  The problem is that seller talk to a bunch of csr who don't know crap about softwares and who don't know how to report the problems or who never actually spoken to any programmer.
It is also possible that CSRs are trained to chill out to allow the so-called glitches to infect more TRS holders to reach ebay mathematical financial targets calculated through use of ebay science.
