eBay to Redesign Item Page after 9 Months of Testing

eBay will soon launch "phase one" of a new listing page design after 9 months of testing, although sellers appear skeptical it will be an improvement. A seller shared screenshots of the design on Christmas Eve in a post on the eBay boards containing detailed information.

The seller, using the ID " mcdougle4248," explained, "According to this post (screenshots below), we should see the redesign's first phase now or soon. I am not seeing it yet, however."

The seller pasted the contents of a post from a private eBay discussion board where eBay had shared screenshots of the new design - the December 14, 2023 private thread was titled, "We are launching the first phase of a redesigned item page on desktop!"

"We have been working very hard the past few months trying to find a version of the page which is liked by our users and finally we are happy to share that we will be launchign the first phase of the redesign sometime next week. After multiple iterations, this version has tested well with users and now we have decided to launch."

According to the private post published by "buyer_team@ebay," the highlights of the Phase One redesign include the following:

- Larger images and a 2-column layout
- Increased prominence for seller information
- Improved information hierarchy
- Prominent Click to Action buttons (Buy It now, Add to cart, Add to Watchlist etc.)

The poster of the screenshots said they had joined the private View Item redesign in March when eBay invited users to join. EcommerceBytes wrote about the invitation on March 31, 2023.

"Mcdougle4248" pasted the private post on page 7 of a public thread that had been active for nearly 9 months, but a moderator locked the thread 10 days after Mcdougle4248 published the screenshots in mid-December "due to the age of this thread."

Sellers had openly discussed changes they saw to the eBay Item page over the course of nearly 9 months. Some expressed a longtime concern that eBay would make it harder for buyers to see the details of an item before buying, leading to returns or negative feedback as a result.

It doesn't appear the screenshots of the new design have reassured sellers. Mcdougle4248 published the screenshots on a new thread on December 24th. Let us know what you think of the redesign.

@ebabyout

"and don't you keep a log of your past posted grievances"

No, there's no reason to

Sellers always have more problems then buyers do. If they aren't selling eBay has a problem.

Everyone I know that buys on eBay are happy, if any of them have a problem I tell them how to proceed forward. Sellers on eBay are always going to be on the short side of the stick, that's just the way it is on eBay or brick & mortar.

The Customer is always right, haven't you seen "Falling Down"?

The big PROBLEM is the two rows of "similar sponsored items" & "related sponsored items" ABOVE my item specifics & my description.

I just wonder if I used the "sponsored item grift" it would be that way.

Hey eBay, how about letting us try to sell our stuff since we pay for the space before sending buyers off to buy something you will make more money on because they fell for the "sponsored item grift".

Provocateur?

Deliberate controversial behavior in order to provoke argument or other strong reactions is not ‘funny’, is never constructive, and renders such posts as being no more than just pathetic and without any contextual merit.

Is that all you’ve got to offer here?

That 9 months must have included lots of weed and psilocybin and using causes about the same confusion as the bent mirror in the fun house.

I'll reserve judgment until I actually see it, but am not happy to read that more other items are going to be featured. I do a LOT of buying on eBay, and as a buyer, I totally hate that,. Let me see what I clicked on and am interested in, please — don't try to deflect me before I've even gotten to see and read about what I came to that page for!

And needless to say, as a seller, as much as I love eBay in general, I resent them trying to take buyers away from my View Item page, which I took great pains to make good enough to rank well in search and get my item found!

eBay needs to seriously rethink the placement of other items on my View Item page. Below my description is fine; at that point, the buyer either does or doesn't likes my item well enough to buy it. If not, then by all means show them other items, so that we keep that buyer on eBay. But let them see MY item first.

As a buyer, it's confusing as well as annoying to have to scroll down past other allegedly "related" items that all too often aren't!
