eBay will offer Store sellers a substantial fee reduction for driving sales from their social channels. Tom Pinckney, Vice President of eBay Stores, announced the news during a session at eBay Open seller conference on Thursday, which is taking place virtually.
"We all know that increasingly buyers are discovering products and getting validation of those products through their social channels. And so, first," Pinckney said, "we're improving the basic capabilities of how you can go to the listing page and share your listing into these different channels.
"But more importantly, we're changing the pricing to reward you and to thank you for bringing traffic to your Store and to your listings. So whenever a buyer clicks through a social link, back to your listings, back to your Store, and makes a purchase, you're only going to be charged 2.5% Final Value Fees plus a 30-cent transaction charge.
"So this is a pretty substantial reduction in fees to help you drive repeat purchases, drive traffic into your listings and to your Store."
Pinckney's session did not provide details about when the new feature and pricing would be available - most likely, it will be available only to sellers with a Store subscription, but stay tuned for eBay's official announcement.
The VP also discussed other Store features during his presentation, which you can watch via YouTube - his discussion of reduced fees for social sharing begins at approximately 5 minutes and 30 seconds.
Well they can try anything they want. But only an idiot would do all their own promoting and hand eBay any money for doing nothing. The reason we paid eBay fees was they promoted and advertising. If they are not doing anything for me? I sure as hell won't be doing anything for them. Oh wait! I'm not anymore. 9 items listed on eBay. 763 items listed on ecrater. We are a reliable and afforadable trucking comapany.

eBay knows that they have driven away so much business to the social media sites, they are desperate to get a piece of the action...... When it comes to social media sites, I actually use the ''threat'' of listing items on eBay as a way to steer sales off of eBay !!! Here's how it works....I list my rare vintage automotive items for FREE on Instagram or on Facebook in the ''market place'' or in targeted F.B. groups that have an interest in my rare vintage parts & accessories. When a prospective buyer contacts me about the item, I give them an option of buying the item directly from me using Pay Pal. If the buyer has reservations about this arrangement, I offer to list the item from the ''safety '' of eBay BUT there will be an additional 15% fee & eBay will also ad on the additional sales tax fee. I also use this same technique when answering wanted ads on F.B. or I.G. Let's just say that I have never had to list an item on eBay based on a sale generated from Instagram or Facebook. I am not the only one that does this....I know collectors all over the country that now take this same approach to selling & eBay only has itself to blame for driving away these sellers.

Tool - Sell? You were giving that up months ago when you ranted that you couldn't collect SS soon enough. Sorry Tool - there is nothing easy about selling on Ebay today. And I do apologize - you said Mercari - which if you bothered to sell there is 20 times faster to make a listing. In fact sales on Mercari have surpassed my sales on Ebay the past 4 months so I know where I'm going to start focusing on. I'll hopefully be off Ebay by January. 23 yrs and it's time to pull the plug.
Also it's easy to say that you don't have the problem many other sellers have when you drop ship new items and use catalogue descriptions for these new products vs sellers who have to source, photograph, make a description, fill oodles of IS ect.

eBay used to have referral link credits years and years ago but corporate greed took over and they got rid of the credit.

Although this reduced fee has the ability to be less than the Seller is paying to process on their own, the forced addition of Sales Tax if you sell through Ebay is a major consideration for many sellers, myself included. Also I would never send social media business through Ebay for that small savings considering all of the other negatives that Ebay has in store for the seller. Suddenly I would be open to forced 30 Money Back Guarantee (which I have no problem offering on my own and actually do) where the buyer can send back anything, including an empty package or box and Ebay will then automatically return the money to the buyer. Why would I ever be so stupid as to put myself back in that position when I had already done all of the work outside of Ebay and can then keep control of the customer service all by myself by just paying a little bit more in the discount fee. In addition I do not have to sit there and wonder when Ebay is actually going to pay me plus will their system actually work and only charge me the 2.5% plus $0.30. Or will they once again have a "glitch" which charges the full FVF amount and then have to spend MY valuable time once again fighting with Ebay to get the correct amount of money for my item which is one of the main reasons I was selling on the other site in the first place.

Dear Ina, I'm so sorry for all that you, and your husband, are going through due to this harassment from/due to eBay. Countless buyers/sellers, I'll bet, have gone through similar (though maybe on a smaller level). I wish you great success in your lawsuit against eBay.
Dear Ina, I'm so sorry to hear about this happening to you and you husband. It IS about time that someone did something about it, through our legal system. Very best wishes on your success, in this case.
