By: Ina Steiner
eBay founder Pierre Omidyar is retiring from the Board of Directors, retaining the title of Director Emeritus. The move comes after a tough 21 months during which eBay was targeted by activist investors and rocked by scandal.
Jesse Cohn of Elliott Management, which was one of the firms that targeted eBay in January 2019, has also stepped down from the Board of Directors.
Just 3 months ago, two longtime members left the Board
, Chairman Tom Tierney, who joined in 2003, and Fred Anderson. And 12 months ago, former eBay CEO Devin Wenig left the Board as a result of his abrupt departure from the company.
eBay named two new members to the board, it announced Thursday:
- Carol Hayles, former Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of CIT Group;
- Mohak Shroff, Senior Vice President of Engineering at LinkedIn.
Current Chairman of the Board Paul Pressler was quoted, "We are delighted to add Carol and Mohak to our board. Their appointments will add significant experience and expertise at a critical time to support the technology-led reimagination of eBay.”
Pierre Omidyar's retirement from the eBay Board
comes exactly 25 years to the month after he founded the company in 1995. "For 25 years, I've watched with pride as the company I created enabled economic opportunity for people around the world," he was quoted in today's press release. "With sound strategy and leadership in place, I can transition to the role of Director Emeritus with confidence."
