eBay Flags Bargain Listings in Search Results

eBay is highlighting listings with "competitive prices" on shoppers' search results, the marketplace announced on Monday.

"We are launching this feature on certain products that are high in demand, based on sales history, impressions, and engagement," it said of the "Great Price" badge. Based on the advice eBay offered to sellers, it appears it applies more to commodity goods than unique items.

The new badge is designed to send more buyers to "trusted" sellers, which according to its criteria are those who attain Above Standard or Top Rated seller status.

According to the announcement, the appearance or placement of Great Price badge on listings will depend on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to:

- Listings from sellers that meet Above Standard or Top Rated seller status

- Listings with condition new and matched to a product in our catalog

- Competitively priced across similar listings on eBay

- Item's price and shipping cost, listing format, terms of service, history, and relevance to the user query

- Buyer's Search terms, browsing site

"Great Price is not a paid feature and the placement of listings in search results remains subject to Best Match factors," according to eBay. "Promoted Listings remains a separate program."

"Trusted sellers". Would those be their friends from China?

“Great Price is not a paid feature“, SURE I %100 believe eBay cause you know they NEVER LIE!!!

“Hey eBay I’m brand X - remember me? Yeh about the 5000 listings I’m running - so can put me in Great Price? Cause you know I won’t be able to continue running them if sales DONT PICK UP.......

Either that or eBay buyer are so dumb that they can’t figure out a bargain when they see it ........

If they showed ALL relative listings from a search, do they assume buyers are too dumb to do a one-click price sort?

Maybe not ''too dumb'', but wouldn't ever make the effort.  The majority of Etsy buyers (who aren't shopping for handmade, vintage, or crafting supplies -- just stuff) clearly don't comparison shop.  Because if they did, they could find the same item they just purchased for, say, $35 on Etsy for $10 on Amazon, or $5 on eBay.  Or less than $1 on AliExpress.

Etsy has been using gently encouraging stock messages on its item pages for years (adding more all the time) that reassure shoppers that the item page they're on is the ideal seller and listing to purchase that counterfeit Rolex.  And it seems to work!

That kind of shopper doesn't want to think about it for a few seconds, look for more info, and then decide.  That buyer wants to feel the site is holding their hand to make them feel safe.  Unlike the buyer who is actually safer because they don't need hand-holding from the venue.

Another wards . . . "Favoritism"
Freaking morons.
Here's a thought . . .
HOW ABOUT JUST SHOWING EQUALLY OUT OF RESPECT TO "ALL" SELLERS, ALL THE ITEMS LISTED RESPECTIVELY AS THEY ARE UPLOADED TO YOUR SITE instead of "Hiding" listings or making a prospective bidder click on a link to show all the items Ebay deemed irrelevant???
The energy from the contempt I have for this company (along with others) could light 10 city blocks for a year straight . . . .

This is the latest in eBay's race to the bottom on prices and their profitability war against their sellers.

The obvious plan is to place it on listings with certain preferred sellers.

A year or so from now, eBay will claim the boost in sales proves their badge works, and they will shake sellers down for additional fees, or the badges will disappear from their listings.

eBay.... always looking for new ways to separate sellers from their profits.

"Great Price" badge. Based on the advice eBay offered to sellers, it appears it applies more to commodity goods "

OK and so what?

eBay knows quite well (well they dont but they say they do)(please dont interrupt the idiots from Walmart - its happy hour over at Walkers) that they cant ever compete against Walmart and Amazon on commodity goods - and this is their great big answer?

I met with them about this topic - how to sell commodity goods and 1) be seen all the time - top of the fold and shown in the first few listings and 2) how to deal with the price for shipping issues with these items - that Amazon usually "eats".

eBay told me "drop dead". "unless you can road map out and promise us X amount of $ - there isnt anything to talk about. Why should we give you anything (placement etc) when we can do it on a case by case basis".

I replied that if people come to eBay to buy their dishwashing liquid or shampoo, they will stay/come back for other things ..."oh yeh - I remember I needed one of "those"". And eBay told me "stfu". How nice.

I asked them (with their supposed great USPS connections) of they could get me better shipping costs OR if eBay would subsidize %50 of it, OR ship it themselves (sorta like FBA) and AGAIN I was told "go away'.

OK - to quote Blazing Saddles "we dont need no stinkin badges" ... and we dont.

Off Topic:

I got a $1.12 from eBay shipping deposited to my Paypal account today.

I have a voided label from last week but that amount is $7.42

Why would eBay Inc. Shipping be giving me money?

Anyone else get any "free" eBay money? lol

You probably overpaid for a label. It's not ebay giving you the money back, it's USPS through ebay Shipping.

My question would be.. and I'm going to make a general assumption based on eBay's past desires.. this would only apply to New items..  Am I correct? I'm not sure why eBay wants to take responsibility for setting market value, more like attempting.. It's laughable honestly.. The market in the world has always determined itself. Yes, there are some idiots out there who only shop certain streams, but I'd like to think of the consumer as an intelligent one and also believe in supply and demand.   I find this poor timing as alot of new items aren't even being manufactured right now..  without backorder and delay.. More smoke and mirrors nonsense..

eBay is calling attention to bargains on Search results pages, it revealed on Monday. The new badge, called Great Price,
^^
I know what I want to buy and I bypass all those flying ads.  I go straight to the search box and search for items.  Otherwise, I go to Google shopping (or AMZ) to find products.

Here we go again.  eBay makes another unneeded change instead of fixing problems.  I have seen many times listings in Video Games and DVDs where the seller is selling it for $2.99 and FREE shipping.  When you considered the cost of shipping and eBay fees, either the seller is doing something crooked or the seller is losing money.  eBay should be blocking these type of listings so that honest sellers can sell their item.  In addition, Feedback percentage is based upon volume, so a seller can have numerous negative feedback but still be, in eBay's eyes, Top Rated and a highly trusted seller.

More Nonsense! When I create a new Buy It Now listing I try to have the lowest price currently on eBay as I want turnover. It will be fascinating to see if eBay gives me any consideration with this - I won't be holding my breath. Plus yesterday they sent me a message telling me I am no long a TRS when I have had 100% feedback for years and ship always within 24 hours although I promise 2 days. For the life of me I have no idea what their message meant

The seller might be using the item as a "loss leader," hoping that the buyers will purchase other items from his store.

"Listings with condition new and matched to a product in our catalog"

This is the one criteria that will keep me from getting this badge. I do not use their catalogue because it always has the wrong info.

Commodities can be found anywhere and I'm pretty much 'so what' about all this badge nonsense - it's just similar to Amazon's 'buy box'.  It makes little difference, anyway, when every commodity I've purchased on eBay in the last few years has come from Amazon anyway.

Doesn't feed back tell buyers if the seller is good? As for Ebay pointing out best prices.. that is just another way to try to force sellers to  to sell and ship for less..Many of the online venues want the sellers to give it all away while the venue gets rich....  Plus how can Ebay know  the quality of an item they don't have in hand? ..2 sellers can sell items that look alike in a picture  but they can be very different quality in reality.. buyers are smart enough to make their own choices.  When I 'm the buyer I usually find  that kind of help confusing and  quite Irritating. Venues should for the most part stay out of sellers shops!
