eBay's Chief Technology Officer Mazen Rawashdeh announced on LinkedIn last night that the company has a new Chief Architect who had previously worked at eBay.

"I am excited to welcome Randy Shoup back to eBay as VP, Chief Architect. He spent seven years at eBay earlier in his career and rejoins us from WeWork, where he was VP of Engineering. Randy is a seasoned technology leader who has the deep technical expertise needed to help us accelerate our tech transformation journey. He’s committed to cultivating talent within his teams, and because he knows eBay and its businesses so well, he is uniquely positioned as Chief Architect to help us continue to create better experiences for our customers."

Randy Shoup posted his own announcement on LinkedIn:

"The more I thought about it, the clearer it became that there are tons of opportunities to spearhead technology and practice improvements at eBay that will directly provide value to buyers and sellers. And I hope that I can bring a unique perspective and set of experience to help make that happen. Getting to partner again with top-notch former colleagues who have also returned, including new CEO Jamie Iannone and CTO Mazen Rawashdeh, as well as *many* others, was also no small part of the decision. Watch this space :-)."

"Excited to share that I have rejoined @eBay as VP Engineering and Chief Architect. Tons of opportunities for technology and practice improvements at eBay to directly provide value to customers, and I hope to bring a unique perspective and set of experience to make that happen."

According to his LinkedIn profile, during his previous tenure at eBay (2004 - 2011), he led the design and architecture for eBay's results ranking system ("Best Match") and spearheaded development of eBay's next-generation real-time search engine ("Cassini").

The "truth" can be objective

No - its absolute - thats why its "the truth"

If eBay was angry at posters - and I HOPE it was me - they havent done anything about it - and why should they? They are a multimillion dollar criminal enterprise and Im just a small seller.

"The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing people he didnt exist"

"The greatest trick eBay ever pulled was convincing Wall Street that its stock is worth more then $10 a share".

eBay has a great ratio because they have a ZERO cost entry to goods ratio. Amazon owns planes, trucks and warehouses, eBay has a building and a bar in San Jose - and thats it.

They dont even have a plan to grow the marketplace - and WS is afraid to ask them.

Makes you want to know whos paying off whom.

As for this yoyo - its another case of bringing back the same cr@p employees who were zeros then - in some vain hope that THIS time it will be different, it wont be.

Here we go again.  eBay going backwards.  How about eBay spending their money on fixing problems, responding to seller ideas, and improving communication on changes that are making and have made.

Since Ina didnt like my Carol King reference ... :(

Lets try another

With apologies to Jefferson Starship

He built Cassini, we built Cassini to rip you off
He built Cassini, we built Cassini to rip you off

You say you're just a venue, that kinda place
You say its just business so I should shut up my face
Knee deep in the eBay, sinking in my fight
We got too many bad buyers eating up the night

Iannone plays off Wall Street, never listens to his own sellers,
dont you remember
He built Cassini, He built Cassini to rip you off
He built Cassini, He built Cassini to rip you off

Wenig was always playing corporation games
Who cares they're always changing corporation names
We just want to sell here, eBays buyers stole my stuff
They call us irresponsible, write us off the page

Iannone pays off Wall Street, never listens to his own sellers,
dont you remember
He built Cassini, He built Cassini to rip you off
He built Cassini, He built Cassini to rip you off

GAG! Cassini was and still is the biggest boondoggle ever created at eBay! You have got to be kidding! When people ask for a Blue Blouse, they expect to find listings for a - blue - blouse and not what Cassini "thinks" they want to see.

ebay earns a 10% commission plus an additional 10% of shipping costs on most all sales, so a rational person would assume they'd want to sell as much as they can, regardless of price. There is no cost to ebay for someone clicking "Buy It Now".
The same rational person would ask why ebay chooses to hide listings, which defeats the purpose of selling as much as it can.
Or...do they us algorithms that defy logic?
