eBay Defers Store Fees for 30 Days for Those Who Ask

By: Ina Steiner

eBay is deferring fees for sellers who have Store subscriptions in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, it announced today (Saturday). Sellers must request the deferment, and eBay will provide more details on Wednesday.

Remember, defer means postpone - sellers will still owe the fees to eBay.

In his post on the eBay Seller Announcement Board, Senior Vice President Jordan Sweetnam said, "We are deeply committed to supporting our sellers through this difficult time. We want to relieve some of the pressure you're facing and give you the flexibility needed to sustain your business."

eBay will send sellers an email on March 25 for details and how to request support.

eBay Interim CEO Scott Schenkel posted on the eBay corporate blog. In it, he explained, "We understand that having a steady cash flow is vital to any business and top-of-mind for our sellers. For the vast majority of our hundreds of thousands of eBay small businesses worldwide, at this time we will be deferring payment for certain selling fees for 30 days. If you operate a small business and could use help with your eBay payments, more information on how to complete your request will be launching in each country in the coming days in our seller community center."

Let us know if this will help, and what else you think marketplaces and service providers could be doing in response to the coronavirus crisis.

It's not clear to me what fees they're talking about.  Do they include store subscription fees or just listing and final value fees?  And by "defer", do they mean we're still going to be on the hook for those fees once the crisis is over?

Store fees = $22 month

April Bill = $367

I need the whole bill to be deferred not just he store fees!

eBay needs to PONY up and help sellers during the most trying times of the 21st century!

I don't need bread crumbs, I need a slice of bread. . . .

@Tool

If you paid your selling fees at the time of the sale, you'd only have a store fee.

be careful with this offer - "deferred" means exaclty that.  If you should be misguided enough to accept the offer - they will then demand the entire back fees all in one lump sum once the offer is over - how the heck is that help?  - that's what the mortgage companies are doing. It's all just smoke and mirrors people. Here's a plan eBay - take some of that 38billion you just made from stub hub and give the SMALL seller their store fee for one month free - really - would that kill you? (probably)

I've been asking eBay why they don't take the fee's at the time of the sale for 20 years!

I hear they do that in managed payments. . . .

Should've could've would've but I DIDN'T, eBay I need HELP for ONCE!

WHERE ARE YOU?

Since sellers are eBay's bread & butter you would think they would take better care of us when we it. . .

In the gun industry we have "Cheaper then Dirt", they proved what kind of company they are in these trying times by PRICE GOUGING, it won't be forgotten!

It is time Ebay takes the fees out at the time of purchase like Amazon does. Then the store fee comes out once a month. We feel this is a much better system.

I knew ebay wasn' going to let go of a single dime. Just delaying it.

ebay is well known for not responding to emails. I doubt these 'requests' will be any different.

Good luck to those who need help.

It's just a suggestion. I've been doing that for the past two years. I do not like the pressure of owing to them for anything.

There is no reason that you don't know what you owe on any given day and keep that amt aside to pay your monthly bill tool. I'm sorry but this is common sense. The other alternative is have them bill your credit card. I'd have no problem Ebay taking their fees at the time of the sale like other venues do or as can-brit says - pay them once a week yourself. Now you're upset for a situation you yourself are in control of.

I thought one of your accounts is in Managed Payments, and they take out the fees then.
Your other account, pay the balance every 5 days until billing.

I remember one fool that complained that she owed eBay over $600 in fees and they have her account on hold. She complained that she couldn't pay this and didn't have this money in her Paypal account.
I wondered why she did pay her fees throughout the month before she would receive a huge bill.

@toolguy - When are you going to open your eyes to the fact that eBay doesn't care about you, just like they don't care about any of their sellers (unless you're one of the big boys who pays thousands in fees every month). They don't care if you can't buy food (or toilet paper), they don't care if you can't make your mortgage payments, and you better be sure you pay their fees when due. If you've been selling on eBay since the beginning, I don't understand why you don't have money set aside to pay fees and postage. You've stated numerous times that you won't have money to pay for postage if you're forced into Mangled Payments. It seems like you spend whatever you have on hand and don't worry about tomorrow until tomorrow arrives. That's not a great business plan.

I can tell most posters have no idea what it's like to depend on eBay for their income. . . .

Some weeks I have plenty of cash others I'm broke.

Which ever way the eBay winds blow we blow with it.

I'm only starting to panic because I can see the storm ahead in the next few weeks.

PS: I do get a Boeing retirement check of $307 on the 1st but it's already spoken for. . .

The only thing you have that can be affected by a lack of sales is your fixed cost of $22.  I guess you could try to defer that for as long as possible.  The other fees were created when you sold something.  You held some of the proceeds aside from that, right?

Or are you asking eBay to pay for your food, gas, taxes, ammunition, etc.?  You know, the necessities of life.

@whatever
EBay is selling Stub Hub for $4B, so they couldn't be making $38B on it.
