Etsy sellers have been complaining loudly that the marketplace has been holding on to their money. Five days into the problem on October 9th, an Etsy moderator acknowledged the problem.
A reader told us today the problem dated back to October 5th but pointed to a thread that showed some sellers still hadn't received their disbursement as of today, the 15th. The problem was mostly impacting Canadian and UK sellers.
"No real answers from Etsy, of course," the reader said. "Some people's deposits have shown up with sender listed as Clyde Debussyl, which was explained by Etsy as part of Etsy's payment processor address but still very strange."
Adding to sellers' stress about when they would get their money was not knowing if Etsy even knew about the problem. One seller wrote on this thread
today (October 15), "I'm so grateful I found this thread, I thought it was just me. I am also missing a monthly payment from the 5th!"
On Friday, Etsy responded to one thread with the following message:
Thank you so much for taking the time to bring this to our attention.
On Monday, October 5, we experienced a delay issuing some deposits. We have confirmed with our third-party payment processor that all impacted deposits have been sent out. It may take 3 to 5 business days for the deposit to process to your bank account. Please let us know via Etsy Support if you do not see these funds by early next week.
Additionally, there was a separate issue, where some deposits are showing a descriptor of "Claude Debusseyl", which is a partial company address of our third-party payments processor. We're currently investigating this matter with our partner and will send an update with details to those impacted by this issue.
We're very sorry for any confusion or trouble either of these issues may have caused! I'm going to close this one up now.
"Etsy sellers in the UK and Europe are not getting paid," another seller wrote to EcommerceBytes. "Their earnings are now almost two weeks late with respect to being deposited. Etsy not replying to those asking where their money is."
Some sellers began reporting the arrival of their payments on Friday, others reported their payouts arrived this afternoon. It's not known if every seller received their October 5th payout.
