eBay Launches New International Shipping Option

eBay Send is a new shipping option eBay is making available to US sellers for their international orders. Currently eBay is allowing only certain sellers to use the service.

eBay will launch the service in January 2020, when all sellers will be able to include eBay Send in their listings as an option for buyers. eBay describes the program on this page of its website:

"eBay Send is a convenient alternative and cost-competitive to the leading international shipping services for small packages supporting over 200 countries and territories around the globe.

"Starting in January, this new option will be available in the listing flow, under Shipping Details, you have the option of selecting Calculated or Flat international shipping cost listings. For either of these options, select "eBay Send International Standard" shipping service from the drop down menu.

"After your item sells, select the "eBay Send International Standard" option when you print a shipping label with eBay Labels for buyers in destinations outside the US. Drop off your package at any US post office or schedule a pickup."

You can also find a rate card and terms on the eBay site.

The program is quite different from eBay's existing Global Shipping Program, powered by Pitney Bowes, as explained by eBay:

- eBay Send International Standard is a Delivered Duties Unpaid (DDU) shipping service. This means buyers won't pay duties and tax at checkout on eBay but may have to pay the carrier for duties and tax on delivery.

- The Global Shipping Program (GSP) is a Delivery Duties Paid (DDP) shipping program. Buyers pay duties and tax during checkout on eBay, and will not pay additional fees upon delivery. Additionally, GSP manages export compliance.

Another major difference: "While eBay has worked with shipping carriers to create the eBay Send International Standard shipping service, you're still responsible for getting the order to the buyer in good shape."

eBay listed the following eligibility requirements:

- The item is physically located in the US
- You're listing the item on eBay.com
- The total order value is less than $5000
- The item does not exceed the weight limit for the country you're sending to
- The max length and girth of the package is 84"

One significant drawback of the program: "You cannot combine multiple orders into one shipment to the consolidation center. Each order purchased with eBay Send International Standard needs to be packaged and sent separately."

The services powering eBay Send appear to be DHL and Easyship. Check it out on the eBay website and let us know what you think.

Seems like yet another eBay gimmick which is useless. Go figure...

They are so desperate for sales since Google cut them off they were giving away goods the last 2 days with Pop Up coupons, you could buy 14 dollars worth of stuff for 4 bucks. I guess you can do that when you rip off sellers with tricks to defraud them daily, the Good Til Canceled renewal script is generating hundreds of millions out of thin air.

I don't see the point either.  International postage hikes destroyed my international sales over a decade ago.  Why should I care about this?

If it offers a competitor to 1st class int'l mail that is the same price or cheaper and has actual tracking to the door with a signature required or signature option, it will be a worthwhile alternative for small packages under 4 lbs.
1st class intl now, as many know, has no tracking past customs to most countries ,no signature and can take 10 days sometimes and 4-6 weeks others.
An alternative in this weight range that is SAFE for the seller is what's needed.
GSP is too expensive in this range, but excellent for 5-60 lb range in my experience. Usually cheaper than USPS.
They damaged $400 speakers to Japan this year and paid my customer out immediately including his shipping, letting him keep the item.
Has been very good overall, 1st issue out of several hundred over, what 10 years?

My understanding is that are three basic kinds of overseas charges besides postage: custom charges (ie fees for going through customs), duty on contents, and tax. When you ship by USPS, the first duty is prepaid; the other two are the recipient's responsibility.

Will this new eBay service still cover customs charges, or will all three be owing upon receipt?

"eBay Send International Standard uses USPS’s domestic service to transport items to eBay’s trusted warehouse partners. Our partners screen packages and then forward them to your international buyers around the world. You and your buyers can track the entire transaction via eBay.com."

Multiple purchase buyers from overseas stopped buying about 7 years ago because no buyer in their right mind wants to pay overseas shipping cost on every single item from the same seller.

But the real sickening kick in the gut is the fact that eBay displays a message to the potential buyer stating "This seller does not accept combined shipping".

How can this even be legal?....Answer: eBay is run by lawyers.

Here in UK it is still impossible to put more than one item from the same seller in our shopping cart while all the time the advert on TV was saying "Fill your cart with colour".

When listing items for sale there is a tick box to turn on "Immediate Payment required" that has no effect when un-ticked. It took me 5 years of digging to find out this was intentional but not enforced on every sellers account.

How can eBay prefer to make 10% on shipping cost instead of 10% of multiple sales? It's a no brainer that a five year old could understand.... unless you happen to be a lawyer in control of a sinking ship with no lifeboats.

How does all this help us grow our business Mr Sweetnam?

The facts above clearly display that you are not interested in sellers saving on shipping cost. You absolutely want to increase shipping cost.

No, thank you. Will continue using pirateship with their international rates being 30-40% lower than ebay's. A nice try to lure us into using ebay labels. Another great idea, one cannot combine multiple orders. What a joke.

So when a buyer is slapped with a large amount of duties and taxes and get pissed off and leaves negative feedback is Ebay going to remove it?

Jono77, now you are understanding that eBay does not care if the seller makes a profit, they care about eBay making the most profit, and they have no regard for the law until the law shows up and busts them, then they comply because the cowards do not want the jail time.

Really don't get what the point of this is. Been using GSP for over a month and have had more international sales than i've had in years. I think buyers are mostly just too lazy to ask for a shipping quote, but if it is right in front of them they will just pay it.

I dumped the Global Shipping program a couple months ago. Then I made a list of the countries that do International First Class with delivery confirmation and enabled international to only those countries (and only the items I could ship for under 4lbs).  eBay rates were not discounted so I added a handling fee so I wasn't losing money on shipping, as my item prices reflected I was making a little on shipping with eBay discounts.  So far I sell about the same amount internationally and have had no returns or complaints.
