eBay Tempts Cyber Week Shoppers with Bucks Promo
By: Ina Steiner
Is eBay delivering buyers to its army of sellers during Thanksgiving weekend and Cyber week? eBay kicked off an eBay Bucks promotion on Tuesday to try and boost sales during what should be a busy period for sellers. Invited members can receive 10% in eBay Bucks on qualifying items of $25 or more when buying with the latest version of the eBay mobile app.
We noted a similar promotion in September, but with this latest sale, eBay will also provide members of its loyalty program 8% in eBay Bucks on every qualifying item of $25 or more if they choose not to purchase through the eBay app.
This latest invitation-only promotion kicked off on Tuesday (November 27) and ends today (November 28, 2018).
Rewards are capped at $100 per transaction (and $500 per Earn Period). Be sure to see both the promotion details and the eBay Bucks Terms & Conditions. Buyers must first activate the offer.
While eBay may have been planning to run the promotion as part of its holiday marketing, some skeptics thought it may have been launched in desperation. A reader who sent us the promotion wrote, "The day after Cyber Monday and eBay's selectively giving out Bonus Ebucks. I guess the sales must have been pretty poor. I sure know mine were."
And on the eBay boards
(where some sellers were also complaining of poor sales), a member mentioned the eBay Bucks promotion and wrote, "I'm guessing sales were not up to par these past few days."
The invitation reads in part, "Go Get 'Em. Shop your watch list. Bank more Bucks."
How were your Thanksgiving-weekend sales, and how is Cyber week going? And what do you think of eBay's marketing initiatives?
