New Head of eBay Seller Experience Details Major Changes

eBay's new Vice President of Seller Experience Harry Temkin revealed in an interview on Wednesday changes that will be coming to the marketplace and described how they will impact sellers.

eBay CEO Devin Wenig brought his former colleague from Thomson Reuters on board last month as he tries to revive growth.

With a background in financial information and technology, Temkin is tasked with helping Wenig achieve his vision of a more powerful central dashboard for sellers, called Seller Hub.

Temkin envisions sellers viewing their listings in Seller Hub with realtime pricing data on one side and promoted listing settings on the other - and it's easy to see why. Amazon's marketplace success is in part due to fluid product pricing, but it also makes it an incredibly competitive place on which to sell. And making it easier for sellers to pay-for-play increases eBay's take rate.

Here are changes Temkin announced:

Multiple Top Pick (MTP)
eBay already provides pricing guidance, but MTP takes it further. eBay will display off-eBay "web-based" prices of products (low, mid, high), and it will display prices for the top 5 comparable products on eBay (taking into account sellers' policies). MTP is launching to a limited audience starting this week with a full rollout next year.

Price-too-high Notifications and Adjustments
Temkin wants a mechanism to inform sellers in realtime if their product prices aren't comparable to other prices (on or off eBay), and give sellers the ability to either have eBay adjust the price for them, or reduce prices themselves in bulk by a set percentage relative to the prices eBay found.

Seller Initiated Offers
Sellers will be able to initiate an offer to anyone who is watching their listings.

Buyer Initiated Offers
Buyers will be able to initiate an offer to sellers. For example, Product X is listed by multiple sellers at $50. A buyer willing to pay $45 will be able to send a notification to those sellers asking if any would be willing to sell at the lower price.

Listing 1.0
Some of the features eBay foists on consumer sellers will be available as options to business sellers. For example, sellers will be able to choose to automatically relist items that don't sell at a pre-determined lower price or with the Best Offer feature.

Multi-user Access and Authentication
eBay will roll out multi-user access and authentication sometime in the first three months of 2019. This allows an eBay seller to give employees partial or full access to their account.

Social Sharing from Seller Hub
eBay made it easier for sellers to socially share listings using eBay's mobile app, and it will extend that functionality to Seller Hub.

Seller Protections
eBay will work on seller trust issues in 2019 - "As the head of seller experience, it's my job to protect you as the seller," Temkin said. "It's a high priority to add more seller protections."

Temkin's presentation indicates more fluid pricing and paid promoted listings are priorities for eBay in the year ahead.

It seems to me that EB has studied the new and upcoming sites like Posh and are borrowing what they do.

Reading all your responses. Pretty much all I would say as well. I'll add this little tale....

Today I received an email from The eBay Fashion Merchandising Team. Had one email from them before, but just deleted it. This time I thought....maybe I'll give them a few seconds of my valuable time.

It started with:

Hello odditiesandantiquities1,

Thank you for being among our top eBay fashion sellers! Attached you will find the opportunities we think are relevant to your categories.

Ok, well I sell Antique Fine Jewelry. Very fine antique jewelry. So what does eBay have suggested for me to help my sales (which would be perfect if they'd stop blocking my visibility),

So the report shows in the category Jewelry, New and Used Brands and Price Suggestions.

Did they look at my store? Or did they look at the dollar value I used to sell. Probably the latter.

As expected, there was nothing in that report that helps a person selling Antique Fine Jewelry. Just the usual garbage that eBay likes to insult its buyers with.

Try again guys.............Useless.

Matter of fact, we INSIST you do."

On all my listings, the following:
ELIGIBLE FOR PROMOTED LISTINGS

I can't wait to get away from Ebay.  They're being too aggressive.
Anywho, There was an article about Google Shopping Express starting ecommerce stores like AMZ and Ebay.  Does anyone remember when Google had Google "stores"?  Now they're back at it.  and also Groupon has "stores".  Has anyone researched this.

@Whatever
"I can no longer afford to just sit around listing revising creating - with absolutely little to no money coming in..."

So much time & effort put into this marketplace, with VERY little to show for it... it's disgusting & discouraging.

These are some spot on observations.  For a site so fundamentally founded on the tenants of communications and feedback though, eBay would bear good odds on a bet against any of them penetrating eBay's self-serving shell - especially given the sheer history contextually evolved to their present form herein (and thus far).

eBay's focus du jour via it's latest executive ''noob'' (that's satire, not libel, ok?) is very clear as regards to what a seller 'experience' should constitute here though: ''...making it easier for sellers to pay-for-play increases eBay's take rate.''

Now one might fairly ask; how does a swim in the gutter not decrease FVF, thus make no business sense?  Because it's not just take, it's take rate.  And not rate as in %.  Rate as in the speed of thought by net.  The more seller's snagged to pay for advertising advantage on a venue that is already charging for advertising advantage on a base invoice, the faster that take increases.  The more sales made, the faster that take, and the faster the liklihood of a return, so the faster THAT take, and so on, like some kind of Logrithmic wallet vacuum.  That's the gig.

This also means it makes no matter 'who' eventually get's the sale - and the post deducted managed payout.  Which is why any 'concern' for ''protecting'' that 'inventory source' is, shall we say, a bit lower on the Next Biggest Priority list. Along with every attendant complaint related to a seller's plight - unless such may be inherently within eBay's vision due to complimentary (and financially 'qualified) business model.  THAT feedback eBay can then claim to ''hear''.  In a new upgrade comming soon!

If one also scrutinizes how this latest Mr. Fixit's proven modus 'operational' resume is being applied to eBay's ceaselessly uncocooning massed produced retail product personna in post disruption perspective, it's also very clear where there is a priority here as it all so comprehensively (enough) detailed already.   For those other sanitized for your protection strips?  Not so much.

So - a new racecar dashboard and assorted bolt-on's for the ol' jalopy.  How ironic, given how those who are so well experienced in the unique, the vintage, the eclectic, will no longer find eBay to be viable transport for their success once this latest gauge and throttle control contraption is energized.

it's true ebay prices are generally as everyone knows it costs more to sell on ebay, with fees on everything, even on shipping, promotions, returns

ebay knows they take a big cut of the pie, their only hope to stay competitive is they must convince sellers to take less and less for their items, they really should be hiring a physiologist instead of this idiot

All of the changes has destroyed small sellers and now you want to make more changes? I suggest you remove China sellers how about that? Buyers cannot find anything because they have to dig through their cheap junk first!! Wenig and China has ruined Ebay! Buyers have gone elsewhere!!!

If you want to protect sellers, protect us from Ebay. We're already on round two of ''defects'', but this time instead of booting off sellers, they're just charging them 4%. ALL FILED CASES COUNT, INCLUDING CASES THAT WERE WON AGAINST THE BUYER. That's a class action waiting to happen.

He's been brought in to try and stop the mass exodus of sellers, just like the first round. You'd think when growth is the buzz word of the year, you wouldn't create a mass exodus (again), but that's exactly what they did.

The new ''improved'' interfaces are junk and useless to me. I went to the SIY form and even it's changed to junk.

It is pretty shameless how they are stealing Poshmark's ideas.  I guess since they are at battle with Amazon over  Amazon's "theft" of eBay sellers they will now try to emulate Poshmark.

Big difference.  Poshmark does not micromanage their sellers nor do they dole out continuous punishments related to returns, metrics, etc.  Poshmark does not hide sellers' listings.  Poshmark is actually fun.   I haven't had a single whiny or unreasonable buyer there.  Not one single scammer either.   Poshmark does not beg buyers to return items like eBay does.  I have only had one return there at that one was my fault.

The writing is on the wall now. I have heard more complaints than ever before about stagnant sales, even on the eBay cheerleader board I belong to on Facebook. Upper management needs to get a clue.

I created a new Etsy account and a Mercari account. I sell on Facebook from time to time but there are a lot of flakes. I am guessing that people that shop there are the ones who got filtered out on ebay for having too many UPI strikes, lol. But, point being - the sales have gone to a screeching halt at ebay and I need to branch out again.

Wall Street needs to pull theirs heads out of their collective hineys and find a way to get rid of Wenig before the company goes completely under.

In the past year, I've been amazed at how little eBay appeals to me for either buying or selling.  I'm a 20 year member with 100% positive feedback in the thousands.  Like many, I used to sell antiques and collectibles on eBay, but long ago moved those off to a specialized site.  However, I still continued to purchase regularly on eBay, sufficiently enthusiastically to be able to purchase all my business supplies with my eBay bucks.

Not any more.   I've left the few ''bucks'' I've earned on the table this year.  Amazon is just SOOO much easier to search and to purchase from.  Amazon Prime rocks.  You're not deluged with 1000s of inappropriate listings.  Yet another former eBay fan gone away from what has become a boring, clogged and clunky site.

Amazon, Overstock.com, Walmart, Target and I'm sure most other large sites don't use 3rd party ads to steer buyers away from the page. But ebay does. Not one but two sometimes 3 junk click-bait ads on a single page. The definition of tacky. Does this company have no shame, no pride. Money above all else no matter what the cost.

Ichan was right. ebay is one of the most mis-managed companies in recent history. Sad thing is, it continues with incompetent new hires like the buddy system.

When I shop on Amazon I look for items that are "Sold & Shipped" by Amazon.

I don't buy 3rd party items on Amazon.

When I shop on eBay I look for small sellers to buy from!

I buy way more stuff on eBay then I do on Amazon, in fact I've only bought 4 items on Amazon this year.

I WON'T be renewing my Prime when it comes due next month. . . .It would be cheaper to just pay the shipping.

Wenig has created something worse than simple dislike of ebay.

Dislike has morphed into intense animosity.
He's no student of human nature, so he has no clue about the import.
So, he continues to drive away those that pay his salary, all the while presuming there's an endless supply of suckers born every minute.
