Welcome to eBay Seller Hub - or Seller Hell?

By: Ina Steiner

On August 17, eBay posted a notice in a sub-category of its community boards informing participants that it had begun moving all business and professional sellers to the eBay Seller Hub. "With this change, you'll still have access to the selling benefits you did before, but the interface will be different."

But eBay never posted the announcement on the Seller Announcement Board.

Yesterday, the eBay boards exploded with complaints when sellers logged in to their My eBay page only to find themselves in unfamiliar territory.

This is no mild change - the complaints from sellers are as bitter as they get. It's confusing, it takes longer to accomplish tasks, it's mandatory, and came as a surprise, were among the complaints.

One seller's reaction:

"eBay keeps changing things that really do not matter. Seller Hub offers no improvements over Selling Manager Pro. Not a single one. It is way overcrowded and takes more work to navigate and use and I spend more time doing my work now than before. I've been an eBay seller since 1998 (there are probably no eBay employees left from then) and I've put up with a bunch of screwed up eBay changes. This one is one of the worst."

Readers weighed in on the change on the Ecommerce EKG board - one seller said they tried calling eBay customer service to try to opt-out: "Tried calling multiple times. Phone rings endlessly and disconnects - absolutely stunning. It appears Hal Lawton took the keys to eBay customer support with him - now we will try calling Macy's tech support for assistance!"

The reference was to the departure of the head of eBay Marketplaces Hal Lawton who left abruptly this month after serving two years at the company, having been recruited by eBay CEO Devin Wenig.

Presumably people trying to contact eBay over other concerns are equally frustrated by the inability to reach customer service.

During the eBay Open seller conference in July, eBay executives brought up a seller to the stage who raved about the insight he was able to get from using Seller Hub. We republished a 411 article about the presentation today on Newsflash, which you can read here.

The benefits of Seller Hub may be there, but eBay hasn't done a good job of explaining them, nor does it appear that it made the interface user-friendly to start.

As experienced eBay sellers, what do you think?

Use the ''customize'' button to uncheck all the blocks of info you don't need, and POOF, they're gone.  Use the arrows on the blocks of info that remain to arrange them to suit you.  Then you'll have a much simpler page to work with and eventually you will wonder what all the fuss was about.
That is my experience as a long-time eBay seller.  eBay provides a significant part of my income so I'm going with the flow to keep on going.

@stargateman

Just keep in mind while that may get you out of the Seller Hub, it also would cause Premium and Anchor store owners to lose their free subscription to Selling Manager Pro.  Just wanted that to be clear as some use the added information that the Selling Manager Pro provides.

I never liked Ebay for various reasons, probably why I dont sell on it, but had to get my 2 cents in. Between Ebay and Etsy, it's beginning to look like a competition between the both, who can out do the other on changes, Etsy is no better. Some things are better left alone, why cant either one of these companies understand that We the Sellers know a of allot more then they do, what works, what doesn't and they don't care to listen., unbelieveable. Changes on both sites constantly, its a wonder thEY both are still in business....Ridiculous! JUST LEAVE THINGS ALONE, THEY WORKED FINE BEFORE......

Sellerchick - Seller Manager PRO was the anchor store benefit. Seller Hub is not a benefit, it is a punishment. You cannot even print your item list on this &*(^^$ thing. There is no freaking print button.

I currently have two different version's of the seller hub on two different ID's and intermittently reverting back to Selling Manager Pro.
This is very confusing neither makes handling of order any better I'm not sure of the benefits of the new seller hub ?

All very simple:
Management mandates unneeded untested changes only to look busy.
Junior programmers don't sell on eBay, so could care less.
eBay's attitude has become "because we say so".

the old version was much faster, this is much more time consuming. very user unfriendly. very sore on the eyes, I do this for a living Monday through Friday and The new look makes it look like im working in an office environment with boring white numbers and statistics and graphs  , this new look is a complete turn off.   This company only knows how to complicate things and make sellers like us more uncomfortable day by day and the best is they keep finding new ways to charge us for it.

Opted into the Seller Hub when it first came out and after a couple of months of figuring it out, we found it to easy to use, lots of info that helped us make adjustments to selling etc. Everything we need is on that page--just give it time. On the other hand the TRS has become ''fake news''--no way is eBay accurately tracking delivery validation--we have NEVER been below 96%+ in validating.  Since they changed parameters we just barely made 95% the last period and lost TRS this period with a 87.2%--even though our weekly followup going thru the eBay listing and tracking info on the item shows a 98.6%.  eBay CSR just blew us off when we called--one CSR even said that Sundays/Holidays are counted as a delivery day even though there is no USPS delivery. BTW, even though we can track an insured package tracking # thru eBay--the pop up window when entering insured pkg # says it cannot be tracked and CSR insists its not a valid number. We are antique toys, advertising, political and historical dealers--there is NO UPC code for what we sell--somehow that doesn't resonate with eBay--we opened  shops on Ruby Lane and ICollect24/7 and already have more dollar sales in 3 months --than YTD on eBay--ICollect 24/7 is flat rate shop rent--no other fees and Ruby Lane fees are approx. 25% of what we pay eBay and ''no fuss-no muss'' easy to list process.

I hate hate hate hate seller hub. It totally disrupts a very efficient method of pulling, packing and shipping my items each day. It now takes twice as long and my double checks against errors are gone making mistakes likely.

Easy out way around Seller Hub scroll down to the section that is Seller Tools and then click on View My eBay Selling and it will take you back to the original My eBay page.  So far this is working!

For over a dozen years, I have been using a simple Lotus spreadsheet (old fart accountant here) that gives all the information that I need to run my lousy eBay business.

Having seen so many useless changes to ''My eBay'' and the listing page(s) that I was not surprised nor pleased when like everyone else, I awoke to another ''new dawn'' on eBay.

Two to three days into the new dawn, I found my old ''My eBay'' page and one or two relevant other pages by clicking on the ''My eBay'' link at the top of any page and clicking on ''All Lists''.  This gets it done and good-bye ''Seller's Hub''.

Hub-less is good!
