Welcome to eBay Seller Hub - or Seller Hell?

By: Ina Steiner

On August 17, eBay posted a notice in a sub-category of its community boards informing participants that it had begun moving all business and professional sellers to the eBay Seller Hub. "With this change, you'll still have access to the selling benefits you did before, but the interface will be different."

But eBay never posted the announcement on the Seller Announcement Board.

Yesterday, the eBay boards exploded with complaints when sellers logged in to their My eBay page only to find themselves in unfamiliar territory.

This is no mild change - the complaints from sellers are as bitter as they get. It's confusing, it takes longer to accomplish tasks, it's mandatory, and came as a surprise, were among the complaints.

One seller's reaction:

"eBay keeps changing things that really do not matter. Seller Hub offers no improvements over Selling Manager Pro. Not a single one. It is way overcrowded and takes more work to navigate and use and I spend more time doing my work now than before. I've been an eBay seller since 1998 (there are probably no eBay employees left from then) and I've put up with a bunch of screwed up eBay changes. This one is one of the worst."

Readers weighed in on the change on the Ecommerce EKG board - one seller said they tried calling eBay customer service to try to opt-out: "Tried calling multiple times. Phone rings endlessly and disconnects - absolutely stunning. It appears Hal Lawton took the keys to eBay customer support with him - now we will try calling Macy's tech support for assistance!"

The reference was to the departure of the head of eBay Marketplaces Hal Lawton who left abruptly this month after serving two years at the company, having been recruited by eBay CEO Devin Wenig.

Presumably people trying to contact eBay over other concerns are equally frustrated by the inability to reach customer service.

During the eBay Open seller conference in July, eBay executives brought up a seller to the stage who raved about the insight he was able to get from using Seller Hub. We republished a 411 article about the presentation today on Newsflash, which you can read here.

The benefits of Seller Hub may be there, but eBay hasn't done a good job of explaining them, nor does it appear that it made the interface user-friendly to start.

As experienced eBay sellers, what do you think?

AHA! ebay no longer considers me a 'business seller' so I still have my ebay. wooohooo!

Some good does come from lousy ebay sales for the last couple years. :)

And I totally agree with Sierra; I really miss that etsy dashboard page we used to have. The current one is just a waste.

Its not a problem with us. When Fleecebag changed us over to the mess and wouldn't let us opt out we did the next best thing. In the upper right there is a word CUSTOMIZE. We customized so NOTHING SHOWS just a blank white page. We have always used just BOOKMARKS anyways. Who needs all that nonsense. Best part about it now is that there is non of Fleecebags puking ads that scroll all over the page. Just a nice white page with the only thing on it that says YOU ARE QUALIFIED TO OPT INTO GUARANTEED SHIPPING.

Hey Fleecebag WE DON'T NEED YOUR HELP IN SELLING.

These changes irritate the hell out of me. "My Ebay" and "Markdown Manager" are like the only two semi working parts of ebay. Why are those targets for destruction? I hate that ebay buyers and sellers are always the target of some idiots ego. If no one likes the change then why force it? Does it REALLY matter to you how I see my listings?

Fix broken catalogues, customer relations, site bugs, and turn communication from the ebay community into actionable intelligence and growth opportunity. There is only so many more times you can raise fees before you start plunging back down the hill.....and I would completely not give a #$#@ except that my success is tied to yours. Gross sales are down more then 50% from this month last year, your neglect is costing us both..

eBay have no concept of KISS--KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!

Data hoarders who are constantly forcing it on sellers.   Clutter on top of clutter on top of clutter.

eBay, the data flea market.

MYebay page switched over last week, I complained to deaf ears at ebay. Luckily my bookmarks are still working for the old pages. I don't like it. Seller Hub offers nothing new, and its to busy of a page.

To opt out simply go to the account tab and then choose subscriptions and click on that.  It will list seller hub as a subscription and you can close it out there.  Yes we did not choose to subscribe, ebay subcribed us, but you can cancel under subscriptions which is under the account tab, you know the tab you look at to see how much you owe eBay for the month, and on the left will be a bunch of options, choose suscriptions

I was going to give a few days BUT

The active listings page would take 40-50 seconds to load.

I don't have time to waste when placing ads

It did have a lot of cool new features but if I can't place listings with some sort of speed it's just not worth doing.

I unsubscribed selling manager and re subscribed and got my old eBay pages back (for now)!

ok, last post about seller hell.. amazing how you call a CS agent at ebay and they give you a totally different story than the last rep. Unsubscribe to seller manager, then resubscribe, and the seller hub disappears.

I appreciate eBay's trying to improve, but for me as with everyone else - it's info overload.

I don't need all that info on the page - it's time consuming and a waste for me.

I opted back to the original but lets see how long it lasts.

My main beef with Seller Hub are the figures - they're rubbish! Blatantly untrue! The total it gives me for my 'sales is actually 'sales+postage', and since postage can make up to 20% of my total I now have no way of telling how much I've actually sold this month. On Selling Manager Pro, the correct figure is right there waiting for me.
Plus, since Ebay now claims postage as sales, the figure they give for Ebay fees as a percentage of my turnover is simply wrong. Are Ebay presenting this 'sales+postage' figure to Wall St as Ebay's sales? If they are, isnt that illegal? The books are well and truly cooked.

Devin is wasting time as CEO, time to step down, he thinks he knows how to fool Wall Street but Wall Street nor sellers believe a word he says any more.

If you can get access to it read the transcript from the last earnings report and see what Devin was promoting to Wall Street for a good laugh.

Massive
Growth at Shopify, eBay deader than a doornail, right there that should tell sellers that eBay is wasting time with Sellers Hub and their criminal promoted listings scam that is ruining a bad product search engine even more.

Time to move on Devin, you are a massive flop trying to force sellers into programs they have no interest in, eBay stock is down today again....

The screen view is huge blocks of info that I may or may not need or want staring me in the face.  So much wasted white space.  I have to scroll back and forth to see what's on the right side of my monitor.  I can only imagine what the Hub looks like on cell phones.

I used the customize option to move the blocks of info I use on a daily basis to the left side top to bottom so I can see it with a simple mouse scroll.  (Listings, orders to ship, short cuts, etc).  Shoved stats, tasks and growth to the center and everything else to the right.

I tried the Hub when it first launched.  Hated it and had CS return me to Selling Manager Pro.  The kick in the britches was that I got shuttled back in time to an ancient Sell Your Item form which took forever to load photos and list items.  I had to opt back into the Hub to get the newer SYI form back.

Pretty soon we'll all have to attend eBay University to learn how to navigate the site, list an item and even how to use the myriad site filters just to buy an item.

@bpm

They collect the same fees on sales as they do postage so YES they can claim it as sales revenue!

I note there's a substantial lag between generating a post and the time it becomes visible on the site, so I'll try to keep this post pity: If feeBay worried less about their phony stat they call "Gross Merchandise Value" and focused on SELL-THRU, everyone would be better off. I can't believe that Wall St. pays ANY attention to that bogus GMV metric.

No surprising blueribbon.  Has eBay EVER listened to their customers?  Huge negative response on the eBay boards, blogs and directly to the CSRs.  Do they listen?  No.  They simply don't give a flying fig about their customers.

Based on my past observations,  companies that do not listen to their customers eventually die.
