eBay Management Speaks: Is It What You Were Expecting?

By: Ina Steiner

This was a year of tremendous change for eBay sellers. The head of Seller Experience posted a message for sellers today - did he address your concerns?
---
eBay sellers have jumped through a lot of hoops this year and continue to face technical shortcomings and questionable practices around policy enforcement. They've also seen new seller tools and a big TV marketing campaign.

The head of Marketplaces Hal Lawton left rather abruptly over the summer, and since the July eBay Open conference, there's been little communication coming from the selling team, despite a year of tremendous change.

Today, eBay's head of Seller Experience Bob Kupbens posted a note about the changes of 2017 in a blog post, "Bob's Blog: 2017 Retrospective - Looking Back While Continuing to Move Forward." He writes, "As 2017 comes to a close, I'd like to take a moment to reflect on our accomplishments and remind you that your partnership and the eBay community, is what sets us apart."

Take a look at Bob Kupbens' post on the eBay Announcement board, and leave a comment for him (one seller already posted their no holds barred reaction). Did he address concerns you have as a seller and give you something to be hopeful for going forward?

" it " will get harder for us " regular folks "
we get squeezed by big-box e-tailers and made in China...
profits decrease every year...
our postage rates go up... every year...
and the sites push " free " shipping...
the Congress / Senate want to raise taxes...
on families earning under $75,000.
they want to eliminate property tax & medical deductions...
they want to tax student college grants...
all the people who will be hurt by this " tax reform "///
are our customers.
The less they have, end of week...
the less they can spend... with us.
The rich lawmakers who make these " tax policies "...
do not shop w/ us... buy from us...
they take their millions & invest"
offshore, in multi-million dollar real estate, in the stock market.
Expect less money to slosh around the economy...
less being spent...
We are fighting for pocket change... and, that will, decrease.
Stop blaming venues...
if the middle class had disposable income...
from decent wages, a job w/ health insurance / pension...
the middle class would be spending (remember the 1990's) ?
We'd all be making money...
not reading how clue-less the upper incomers are.

Last week I took down all my eBay listings. After reading all the commentary about eBay and its failure to do the right thing, I took them all down. I doubt that I will ever return, since one of eBay's failings included not showing a link to the discussion board anywhere on the pages. If it was in the footer I didn't find it. So I was effectively walled off from participation. This and the fact that eBay's listing fees are higher than everywhere else. Consider that a lot of seller sites rely on sales to earn their money, so the only thing they collect are a final value fee. eBay collects both listing fees and final value fees, and if they are splashing the competition onto a listing I did not sign up for that.

Let's face it. eBay is not what it used to be. Get your own site or sign up with someone else, and you will find better treatement.

KEY STATEMENT - Thank You Again @snapped

I hope San Jose is taking note

They also provided more valuable advertising than can be bought and 'market produced' today.

And they provided a reliable (contrary to later claim) source of income to eBay, not just via sales, but because THEY also bought.  Sellers and buyers developed relationships.

It wasn't sanitized to be sure, but it was human.

THAT was a community.  An eBay community.  With proud membership.  And it WAS precisely what set eBay apart. Was.

Ebay is a broken business model no doubt about it. I have been selling since 2010 and having completed nearly two million in sales through several stores. Search has become a joke, customer service not even worth discussing. Our sales have dropped nearly 50% year over year. In April and July of this year our items simply did not show up in search. This took a dozen phone calls and countless hours to fix. Everyday seems to be a struggle with ebay. Too much time wasted on the phone with customer service. I will be continue to sell on ebay because the business is established but will be focusing all my efforts on setting up a shopify store.
I can no longer sit idly by while the implosion is occurring. I will no longer complain about you ebay just focus efforts elsewhere. You were great while it lasted but all good things must come to an end.
I suggest everyone search for a new business model  Facebook Shopify etsy whatever the decision the times they are a changing

@Tool
who has doubts?
I've always used Google organic search to look for stuff, unfortunately Ebay is the place of last resort, even if the price is cheaper.

As others have said, this epitomises Devin & BOD

Now & again, they remove their heads to release this kind of hot air BS

Little confused about google Diamond Groove search as it says sponsored. Do you pay Google for it?
I can tell you a couple of weeks ago I tried exact titles on some of my more unique items and could only find 3 of 12 and they were in other languages.

EBAY HAS NO LOYALTY TO THEIR SELLERS. I WAS ONE OF THE SELLERS OF READING GLASSES 21 YEARS AGO. DOING WELL, NOTHING FANTASTIC. I WAS DROPPED BY EBAY THE EARLY PART OF 2017. THEY CLAIMED I SHIPPED LATE. NEVER IN ALL THOSE YEARS DID I HAVE A COMPLAINT ABOUT MY SHIPPING. I ALWAYS SHIPPED ON TIME. IF A SHIPMENT DID NOT ARRIVE EVER LOST BY THE POST OFFICE OR STOLEN OUT OF THE BUYERS MAIL BOX.
I ALWAYS ANSWERED MY BUYERS AND IMMEDIATELY SENT OUT ANOTHER PAIR. MOST OF MY INVENTORY CAME FROM CHINA AT A GOOD PRICE. I SOLD ITEMS AT A GREAT PRICE.
NOW IF YOU ARE SELLING AN ITEM THAT IS MADE IN CHINA, YOU WILL BE UNDERCUT BY THE CHINESE WHOM YOU PURCHASED YOUR ITEMS FROM. THE CHINESE ARE VERY DECEPTIVE. THEY CHANGE THE NAME OF THE COMPANY. THEY SET UP WAREHOUSES IN THE UNITED STATES ALSO UNDER A PHONEY NAME. I RECENTLY CHECKED OUT SELLERS OF GLASSES ON EBAY. THEY ARE VIRTUALLY NOT MAKING MONEY. THEY ARE GIVING UP THE PROFITS THEY ORIGINALLY HAD OVER THE YEARS UNTIL EBAY STARTED LETTING THE CHINESE COME IN, CUT THE PRICES AND THE U.S. SELLERS PROFITS ARE DOWN THE TUBE. EBAY COULD CARE LESS. THEY JUST KEEP CHANGING RULES AND REGULATIONS THAT ARE BEYOND MANY SELLERS. THEY MAKE THESE SELLERS FEARFUL THAT THEY MAY BE NEXT TO GO.
UNFORTUNEATLY WE CAN'T BUCK EBAYS DISGUSTING ACTIONS. HOPEFULLY THEY WILL FAIL SOON.

No I do not pay Google for ad words or eBay for sponsored listings!

But I do see where it says "sponsored"

Maybe eBay's footing the bill for me!

To the omniscient who say they are tired of seeing repetitive comments made by those they say who simply want to see their names responding to Ina's articles, consider the following.

1. New readers come e commercebytes every day and may or not know how extensively these 'managed marketplaces' are manipulating and ripping off sellers.

2. The free stock share crowd reads these blogs and unlike their forums, they can't erase the truth nor can they retaliate against those who expose their frauds.

3. This is where we speak truth to power, and if you don't like it you can skip over those of us who bore you or not bother with us at all.

4. The 'managed marketplaces' devise new and ever more despicable and dishonest policies and plans every day to take more money out of pockets. So if the comments are offensively similar to you, it's because the 'managed marketplaces' behave in offensively similar ways.

Why aren't you expressing your condescending disdain for them rather than us?

for many many years we were a devoted ebay only seller, we loved ebay, we loved the community, a true loyal customer, and ebay  partner  but today our message is ebay can go F%#k themselves , we will do everything in our power to drive every single sale off ebay and to warn others about the madness at ebay, as well as using eBay's own draconian policies against ebay and other sellers when buying, we are the ebayer from hell.

''''eBay Management Speaks: Is It What You Were Expecting? ''''

No it isn't at all, we are expecting a sincere apology with actions that back it up, otherwise we simply continue operating as mentioned above

The bottom line is sales, moving boxes, the velocity Devin keeps talking about, it is not there, so he is blowing smoke, when sellers can't sell they quit buying on eBay, this is why they keep running eBay Bucks promotions, trying to get sellers to buy more on eBay.

It is not working, as these massive tests and changes keep happening, even in MyeBay now the sales keep dwindling, you can't make inventory turns on eBay to even keep the lights on let alone to run a profitable business.

This tells the seller they must look in a different direction, that could be Walmart, Shopify, Bigcommerce, Bonanza, eCrater, Pricefalls.com.

Sad fact but true, Devin has ruined the eBay marketplace, there is only so much you can do by plastering sponsored listings and cross promoting ads when there is no buyers or money in the pockets of the sellers Devin has succeeded in ruining who were his most dedicated customers in the first place.

Don't know why the poster claims he is reading repetitive comments on this blog or who he is referring to, but that is not true at all, if things were good you would not see negative comments.

 http://downdetector.com/status/ebay

Read what real sellers are saying in the above link about slow sales caused by Devin's new eBay and the race to the bottom that he has created on eBay with all his cross promoting of sponsored listings, Devin's promoted listings have made eBay a place where there is little margin to be made and a marketplace where eBay sellers can have a hard time remaining a seller due to the fact that they can't even pay their monthly fees.

Some of the sellers in the Down Detector comment are thinking about getting a job at the local Dollar Tree store, that is how bad Devin's management team really is at eBay.

A few comments on bobs post are about ebay actually engaging the conversation and to have a hired selling team that ebay works with to define "real" seller issues.

Great idea in theory. Will never happen. You know why?? It makes to much sense to do something so easy and practical. We all know this isn't the ebay way.

Every seller here knew Bob wasn't going to respond to Pace's comments. Meanwhile trinton and the other ebay rep just add more fluff to the convo. They answer selectively. They aren't listening. They aren't engaging the sellers or fixing issues.

Is it possible to tweet / blog / or ?? linking this thread and the eBay thread to the eBay stockholders?
Is there a #eBay Stockholders or something.

(Sorry, I am not into this stuff, but it would be great to get the stockholders attention)
