Some Sellers Confused by New PayPal Design

Reports are coming in about PayPal's new design. "Does anyone else have a problem with PayPal's new format," asked one reader. "Now, I can only see the fees they charge at the end of the month in the monthly report or item by item."

It's important for her to know the actual fees for each transaction since she sells on consignment. She did write back after spending a lot of time searching and found a report under "Activity Report, Basic Report." However, she wrote, "it is a hidden feature and I think it should be front and center."

Another seller wrote to say "the new design is horrible." Some of her challenges:

- Not showing existing balance in wallet, "so you can not transfer your funds, and your money is stuck in PayPal," she wrote.

- "Not showing your total amount of money for each month in your financials."

- "Confusing issues on how to send and request money - lumping sending and requesting money in one link." This can get you into trouble, she said, if you accidentally send money instead of requesting it from the seller.

This seller also wrote back, forwarding me an email from PayPal where it acknowledged the first issue, writing, "We do apologize if there's system issue for transferring funds to your bank account. We are aware about this issue and we're still working on it, we appreciate your patience."

Sellers discussing the changes on the eBay boards said they disliked the changes and many of them were trying to revert to the "classic" view, though one said the reports in the classic view are not set up as they had been.

A search of Twitter found many people (not necessarily sellers) liking the new design, though it's unclear if it's simply the home page redesign PayPal previously rolled out, or whether they are seeing the new changes to the inside pages.

PayPal is still rolling out the new design - if you've experienced it, let us know what you think about the new ways of accomplishing your selling-related business tasks, and if you have any tips to share with other sellers. (Please be specific about what you like and don't like.)

Whatever happened to KISS? The battle acronym of coders? Seems to be out the window.

Well, nevermind the design--I've been using Pay Pal since it started and find it faster to buy online with it than entering a credit card number. I never keep cash in it. I just tried to purchase a $12 item online with Pay Pal and was prohibited because I have a NEGATIVE BALANCE at Pay Pal!!!I'm shocked! I loved being able to cash from any bank or credit! I'm furious!

Hate it!
I have to call in just to get information which I've had at my finger-tips for decades!
But, like with eBay, our opinion means less than nothing!  (after all, the D-hoe is in charge of paypal now) If they think the changes are good, they'll do it.....and lie to you that "90% think the changes are great!!" !!!
I've never been screwed by paypal until the D-hoe was in charge!!

I had to call them because I couldn't get to Multi Item Shipping. I was on the phone for 40 minutes and finally got it to revert to the old format. It looks and feels like a 12 year old designed it in web design class with no attention to user interface and functionality. Painful and unprofessional. With all of the competition popping up you would think they would do everything they can to STOP ticking off customers.

I finally found something I like about the new design. When I print out a mailing label for an item paid through PayPal, the label no longer appears as a pop-up in a new, tiny screen.

It's interesting how trends in web sites work. In the early days of the web, companies were eager to play with this new platform and had all sorts of creative and colorful web sites (and lots of ugly ones that would make your eyeballs bleed, too :-). That eventually evolved into the plain, simple sites like Amazon and others, which are kind of boring, but don't get in your way. Now, we have the new wave of "responsive design" that has inspired companies to go back to building complex sites with lots of bling.

The drive toward mobile viewing has also affected design, as many have pointed out. Unfortunately, companies seem to fail to note that a properly designed site can determine what device is being used to view it and change the display to accommodate it. Too many are just designing with mobile in mind, which leads to a poor user experience if you're using a laptop of worse, a desktop with a huge screen.

I do a lot of web development in my day job and can't tell you how many managers demand all the fancy bells and whistles on the front end but fail to understand that there needs to be content behind it or else it's just a bunch of pointless pretty with no substance. They just get so bogged down in the design that they forget the whole point is to offer information and functionality. You see a lot of this with sites that keep tweaking and changing displays, while neglecting to fix functional defects. Look at the newest releases of the Firefox browser for an example of this approach. They messed around with the interface without fixing the ongoing memory leak problems (and made them even worse) and have also removed functionality that many use regularly. Like many have said, change for the sake of change is dumb and just makes more work for everyone.

Luxury Daily reported that the Nieman Marcus department stores have added Visa Checkout as a payment method for its e-commerce site, in an effort to make online shopping more convenient for its consumers.

My opinion on the ''new'' Paypal design and functionality: Confusing, ridiculous, stupid, deceitful, ugly, irrational, chaotic, immature, childish, infantile, senile, intentionally made to confuse and to hide the fees and the transfer funds to your bank links. Why put those videos on the home page that are larger than the computer screen? I am unable to see the password field anymore and have to pinprick it. I know where Paypal is going with all that HORRIBLE ''design''. The reports and functions in the classic view are not set up as they had been. When trying to use Classic View, it reverts to the ''improved'' version after each click on the ''classic'' view. It is allegedly intentionally made to destroy their customer base and to keep as much of their money as possible. It also looks like an interface of communication between Grandparents and their toddler or primary school grandkids. Nothing more, nothing less.

To add more: the New, self-destructing idiots have been hired at Paypal, the further the stupidier the companies and their websites become. Good examples are Google, Yahoo, Paypal, fleebay, Microsoft, the new and the very communistic-red and very ugly Bank of America logo, etc. Just like the US and the world economy today - everything is done to destroy it all, for the reason of: annoy the hell out of people, create famine and war, then implement new world order with satan in front. No, I am not religious. You can ignore the last sentence if you wish.

My Paypal sales are at record low and other people's I know as well. I believe Paypal has just destroyed most of their company by this stupid, or well thought off design, to DESTROY something or perhaps something behind the stage is manipulating the designs of websites of new companies to intentionally create confusion.
