eBay issued a press release stating its business is performing significantly better than the expectations it shared with investors in its April 29th earnings release.
eBay said strength in global gross merchandise volume (GMV) it had seen in April continued through May.
What's remarkable: it now expects GMV growth of between 23% and 26% for the second quarter. That's after years of stagnant growth rates - in fact, in the fourth quarter of 2019, GMV was down 4% fx-neutral. (Does anyone remember the last time eBay had double-digit GMV growth?)
It's interesting eBay didn't mention the surge in online shopping due to the pandemic as contributing to strong sales when it wrote the following:
"All major verticals are accelerating significantly compared to previous quarters, including Home & Garden, Electronics, Fashion, Auto Parts and Collectibles.
"Demand strength is driven by increased organic traffic, better marketing efficiency, and higher platform conversion."
What do you think is behind the strong growth, and are you seeing stronger sales? Take a look at the eBay press release, and let us know - be sure to indicate what types of products you're selling and any other factors you think are relevant. |
