The Buzz about eBay Spring Seller Update 2020

eBay set up a special section on its discussion boards to discuss the 2020 Spring Seller Update announced today, February 26th. It created dedicated areas for sellers to comment and ask questions about the various changes.

The issue garnering the most threads as of approx. 3:30 pm on Wednesday was regarding claims.

And among the threads on that board was one dealing with a change regarding a new protection for sellers - requiring buyers to prove that they actually shipped items before closing a returns request.

That issue is explained on this page of the eBay Seller Update board under "Changes to handling return requests that appear abandoned" where eBay stated:

"Starting April 1, 2020, we will no longer close returns early at the request of a seller when the buyer has not shipped the item back. Instead, we will wait to ensure buyers have sufficient time to provide proof items they requested to return were shipped back. If we do not receive proof of shipment from your buyers while the return requests are active, we will protect you by removing any negative or neutral feedback left on that transaction."

Sellers were not pleased at the answers moderators provided on the eBay thread devoted to this particular question.

Here are the all of the sections on the eBay Spring Seller Update discussion board with numbers of replies as of this writing:

This SellerDOWNDATE is brought to you by The braindead people in San Jose, in conjunction with eBay Cheerleaders everywhere!

This "update" failed cause:

1) it continues eBays war against its sellers

2) it brings in almost no NEW revenue (except abit on the fake returns scam) (from sellers - theres nothing thats "hot/must do etc here)

3) it brings in no new buyers aka revenue

So, once again the sleepy dopes over in San Jose score a minus - and you'de think that with Etsy posting a %20 gain, they would be embarrassed - lets see eBays Q1 numbers!

eBay also skipped the NY Toy Fair (again) ....... such dopey people.

I had an earlier longer comment but Ina killed it (dont know why) hope this one gets published!

None of this is going to matter. As China's supply chains continue to erode from Corona virus. As shipping companies reduce or eliminate deliveries to and from China. As China's economy erodes, a large percentage of ebay's one and only coveted partner will stop selling and bring ebay's GMV down even farther.

China is ebay's future!

@pace306 Etsy now gets 30% of its revenue from sellers paying for ads, so they aren't doing that great. Etsy also just announced that they're forcing, yes forcing, all sellers who make $10k+ per year in sales to pay an additional 12% to 15% more commission on sales coming from Google and social media ads, calling it an ad fee. These sellers are not being allowed to opt out; Etsy says that the additional fee is permanent, even if a seller drops below the $10k threshold. All sellers are being opted in automatically, and smaller sellers have to opt out if they don't want to pay a 20% commission. So Etsy isn't doing that well, not at all.
