Etsy is testing new features that appear to entice shoppers away from sellers' listing pages. A
screenshot provided by one seller showed a prominent "Find similar items" button overlaid on the seller's product photo of a $69 listing for a handmade ceramic mug.
"Okay, this is one of the lowest I've seen on Etsy. "Find similar items" right on your listing pics,"" a
seller exclaimed.
Another seller who said they were also furious called it a really low blow and said clicking on the link takes shoppers to several rows of "similar items" and a row of shops labeled, "shops with similar items."
One seller said they are also seeing a link for "similar finds at a lower price" at the bottom of their listing pages. "Not cool Etsy," they wrote.
It's difficult to attract shoppers to a listing - to have Etsy entice away someone interested in their item is clearly frustrating to those discussing the features.
Sellers also talked about another feature they felt sent shoppers away from listing pages in a thread called, "Possibly why we are losing sales - the new "visual search" button," a
thread started on Friday.
"I just noticed while checking various listings, there is a new "visual search" button on every listing. When clicked on, it will show "other similar items" on various sites, mostly on eBay but others may include Pinterest, Wayfair, Abe Books, and many, many other venues. If the search shows items less expensive than our Etsy listings, it may be the reason we are all losing sales. Your thoughts would be appreciated."
It appears that sellers don't see the features being tested unless they are signed out of their Etsy account when browsing the site.
