These are the kind of decisions made by the fake, lazy, charlatans who are grossly overpaid in their executive jobs that will be the end of once good companies.
Cheap out as much as you can, and gouge fees as much as possible, (with hidden charges added on top) to desperately assume profit.
While they're at it, just sell off everyone's security.
Traitors to the economy.
Traitors to society.
They're the #1 reason for poverty.
Poverty leads to violent crime.

All because they're outrageously greedy and arrogant about it.
I've met too many of their kind to know that the world would be far better off with all of them gone.

They will risk your life and money to make their worthless lives more excessively cushy.

Does anyone else see the parallel to how countries like Russia and China run their ''business''?

Hell to the nope on that. I don't use apps and I don't share passwords. Period. If it becomes a requirement I'll shut my store down that day.

Seriously, what the heck?  This is 2022, not 1995.  What kind of corporation the size of Etsy is using code that has trouble doing bank deposits without the account owner disclosing a password to an app?  

There are thousands of shops open on Etsy where the owners are concealing their location and identity, and they're making sales.  There is so much happening on Etsy that isn't secure or honest.  Stuff they used to deal with hours after one of these scammers opened shop.  Now, their shops stay open for weeks.

Years ago, I used to work at a Non-civil service state job.
Funded by the state.

They contracted a private organization to handle payroll.
That told me that they wanted a third party to handle all of the responsibility of payments to employees.
If someone had a complaint about their pay, they had to go to this new company who ran their service department like ebay.  You cant reach them, they have no accountability, and the main place where I worked found another way to deflect obligation to someone else.  Since this company was private, they could pay well below what their employees deserve.

Really, it is also about the (stolen) money etsy would save by shrugging off responsibility.  Also, they may get some kickback if Plaid purchases some info about sellers.
The manner of how executives try to generate profits is no longer creative or helpful, because they're too dumb and lazy.
So they lean more towards criminal methods.

Nothing on the face of the earth could make me share my bank account password  online.

If it were to become required, I have no problem at all shuttering my Etsy store!  Shut off the lights, close the blinds and don't let the door hit you in the tush as you leave.

Screw Etsy for "testing" this type of applications. Etsy Payments suddenly is not good anymore ??? Yes, like "postmaster" said, charlatans have taken over Etsy.
There are more of these MF waiting in line to get an "associate" title from Etsy CEO. Hope hope that somebody will buy out Etsy. If it is going to be Amazon, that's perfectly fine and even better.

There’s nothing like growing a business when Etsy can no longer attract QUALITY Sellers. LOL!

Have they not learned from Facebook? As Facebook exploits personal information, their reputation went south while many have left the site. What a stupid move, Etsy!

Another thought....I wonder if Etsy even knew that this Plaid company is asking for Passwords. I suspect that some clueless Etsy marketing person found “Plaid” without doing their research and “due diligence”. I suspect, this is the case. LOL!

My question is..is this even legal? I have always ALWAYS been told by my bank, credit card companies, etc, that my login and password are for me and ONLY me, and not to be shared with anyone. IF I do so, I will not have protection from the financial institution in the case of misuse.  So, why is Etsy getting away with this? Who looks into the legality of this issue?

one more thought to share. One time eBay went  into my assigned "clawback" account for a return. Since it was a clawback there was no money there to get - guess what happened? They had additional access to ALL my accounts and withdrew the funds from  my savings! Holy shite - I thought I was being so clever - NOT. Called my bank immediately and they informed me that at the time I gave them access they found a door to get into the rest. That was the end of that folks. My bank put a block on the rest and actually that was kind of the straw that broke- started moving all my listings elsewhere.

Was eBay able to do it just with your bank account and routing number or did you have to give them your sign in and password?

When it comes to anything to do with MONEY, do not ever trust Etsy.


They are criminals who will mug you and take your wallet if ever they get the chance.

I just had another experience in this regard.and can tell you, it's not the customer who's always right- it's Etsy.  

They can bang your credit card or bank account for any reason or for no reason.  Better have a lawyer on speed dial.
