eBay is surveying sellers - if you've taken it, let us know what questions eBay asked and what you thought of the survey.
A reader sent us the invitation, which read, "We'd like to know more about your recent selling experiences. Could you take a 4 minute survey for us? Your responses will help us make eBay a better place to sell."
"eBay just sent out another survey that I am sure will not change anything," the reader said, and provided a few of the statements eBay wanted sellers to weigh in on:
eBay always puts the seller first
eBay is a Brand that cares about me
eBay is a brand I can depend on "no matter what"
eBay is a brand I feel connected to
eBay has my best interest at heart
eBay helps me become a better seller
eBay gives me confidence that they would make things right if something went wrong
eBay is a brand the "gets me" or understands me
"I would love to see the results of surveys like this," the seller wrote.
We noticed on Twitter an eBay user posted Monday morning, "just tried to fill in eBay survey, most absurd pile of shit I've ever seen. Put me off using eBay more than anything." We're not sure if it was referring to the same survey our reader took.
On the eBay forums, a user
posted a thread on Sunday titled, "rigged survey what is this it does not apply to me" and included a screenshot from what could have been an eBay survey - the poster did not say - that focused on how respondents felt about buying.
The screenshot showed the question: "Lastly, we would like to ask you to share your feelings and opinions about online shopping. For each pair of statements, please indicate which one you agree with more. (Select one response for each pair of statements.)"
One of the statement pairings addressed the respondents' interest in Used versus New:
- I am interested in buying older/discontinued models, or used things, such as vintage or collectible items
- I only buy items that are new and in the original packaging.
Another statement pairing dealt with premium price for unique items versus getting the best deal possible:
- When shopping online, I'm willing to pay a premium price for an item that is unique
- I get a thrill out of finding the best deal possible when shopping online.
It sounds like the kinds of questions eBay might ask of buyers - let us know if you received this survey and when.
Updated 1/18/2022 to add: The EcommerceBytes reader said the survey about buying that was linked to in the eBay discussion boards was not from the survey they took for sellers.
A final note: remember you should always be wary of emails purporting to be from a company wanting you to click on a link to take a survey. But if you do receive a legitimate invitation, feel free to share your thoughts about it. There are times when an eBay survey can reveal what new features or services may be on the way.
