"Ready, Set, Play: Amazon's Holiday Kids Gift Book is Here." That's the title on the cover of a catalog Amazon sent in the mail this month that has people buzzing on social media.
The catalog features an orange fox on the cover carrying an Amazon box in a snowy forest with the subtitle, "Get a jump on joy at amazon.com/holidaytoylist."
The mailing is bringing back memories of Christmases past for some, including of the old Sears catalog. "This is what happens when the people my age are in charge of the marketing,"
tweeted one. "Hmmm...Amazon making the Sears catalog great again,"
tweeted another.
"We’ve come full circle with @amazon killing @Sears catalog and they are now starting to send their own catalogs,"
tweeted another.
There are no prices next to the items featured - you'll find QR codes with instructions on how to "Scan & Shop."
Amazon said the catalog (it actually refers to it as "book") features 90-plus pages of toys and gifts, and also includes activities for children, including as a maze, color-by-number, cardboard craft, postcard, short story, and stickers.
While kids are looking longingly at toys and engaging with the interactive features, they can also jot down a list on a lined page Amazon conveniently included labeled, "What's on your Wish List?"
Amazon sent the catalog to "millions" of customers across the US, though it didn't say how it determined who to send it to. Limited quantities will also become available later this fall in select Amazon Books, 4-star, and Go store locations while supplies last.
Amazon is also doing a sweepstakes tie-in:
"Customers are also invited to enter Amazon's Magical Wish Holiday Sweepstakes for a chance to win a Disney Cruise Line vacation in summer 2022. The winner will be one of the first to enjoy a three-night cruise to the Bahamas from Port Canaveral, Florida, aboard the all-new Disney Wish, plus a two-night stay at the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Florida."
Amazon also prepared a 2021 Fashion Gift Guide catalog for adults called "Holiday Style Heroes: What to give, what to get, what to wear, what to share."
