How Is Facebook Outage Impacting Sellers?

By: Ina Steiner

Facebook posted on Twitter today at 12:22 pm Eastern, "We're aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience."

"Some people?" a user quickly retorted.

Clearly Twitter was benefitting from its rival's misfortune: hello literally everyone," the Twitter account tweeted an hour later, as the outage dragged on.

But it's no laughing matter for people who rely on Facebook. Online sellers use the platform in a number of ways - and not just to sell in Groups or on Facebook Marketplace. Sellers also promote their businesses and  to seek business advice and network with other sellers.

Many eBay users say they find the online marketplace provides better customer service on Facebook than through its own site. We don't know if eBay will devote more attention to its @askeBay Twitter account.

News outlets were all over news of the outage. "Facebook, Instagram down after '60 Minutes' whistleblower report," read the headline of one article.

"SOCIAL MEDIA USERS REJOICE ABOUT BREAK FROM 'TOXIC' PLATFORMS DURING MAJOR OUTAGE," read another headline.

The Verge may have been the first outlet to report the outage. "Just as Facebook's Antigone Davis was live on CNBC defending the company over a whistleblower's accusations and its handling of research data suggesting Instagram is harmful to teens, the company's entire network of services suddenly went offline," it wrote.

Let us know how it's impacting you.

FaceBook Outage..That's HILARIOUS  :o)
And Zuck thought he was running for President.
There's No Outage when you've "reached perfection".
NO BODY NEEDS  FACEBOOK.
This entire country was formed and functions WITHOUT it.
DEEP 6 FACEBOOK.
The sooner the better.
Zuck is a sellout.

Was in the process of selling some kitchen cabinets via FB Marketplace and through B/S/T groups.  Had at least 15 inquiries this morning via Marketplace and had two prospective buyers wanting to see the item.  Before I could reply, FB went down.  Included with the photos of cabinets was a Google earth shot of my house location, but now no one can access the album to see where location is.  I'll just have to wait it out along with the rest of the world.  Even though I could use the $500.00 FIRM PRICE.

Supposedly Zuck lost $7bn because of the outage. I know that's pocket change for him.

Off topic, who is holding Zuckerberg accountable for that hair cut?  Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's.

Give him back his haircut Zuck.

Not a Facebook user, I had not even noticed that the site was down.

My time is better spent on other more productive activities.

Facebook was down only for a couple of hours, while the Hibid sites where down for about 4 days because of a ransomware attack, but it didn't make the news!  A lot of people where impacted by this too, but it didn't make the news at all...

It didn’t affect me at all, I don’t live my life around FB and never will, nor do I depend on it for my business.
