Etsy sellers reported seeing a new search feature, but fear not - it's getting good reviews.
"Very much an eBay feature (they've had it for years) but I am glad to see it on here," a seller wrote. "Will certainly be useful for vintage buyers who search for specific items, such as particular brands, etc."
This evening, a third seller weighed in: "I just got this today when I ran a search. Very happy! I've had eBay searches saved for eons and it streamlines the process. Would be great to have efficient search here without having to do it manually every time! Yay!"
We tried it this evening (September 27), and after entering a search query and hitting return, the search results displayed a fairly large blue box pointing to the "Save this search" link that read:
"Easily keep track of searches you care about by saving them!"
There were two options, "Not now" and "Save search."
We selected "Save search." The next search we did still had the "Save this search" link, but the blue box no longer pointed to the feature. Presumably Etsy hopes users will remember the feature the next time they go shopping.
How do you find your saved searches later? We clicked on "Favorites" at the top of the page, and next to tabs for Favorite items, Favorite shops, and Lists, was a tab for Saved searches.
Clicking the tab for Saved searches brought up the search I had saved with a red heart next to it that could be toggled on and off. Clicking on the saved-search magnifying glass next to the search term brings up search results for the term you saved.
It's hard to believe such a basic feature had been missing up to now; this one is bound to be popular with both buyers and sellers.
Etsy is cutting it close to peak holiday shopping to be rolling out new features, but this one could help shoppers keep an eye out for gifts. Let us know if the feature is available to you yet and what you think of it - and how you will use it.
