eBay Bills Sellers for Its FedEx Label Malfunction

By: Ina Steiner

eBay told sellers today it undercharged them for FedEx labels purchased through its system 5+ months ago. It's invoicing them now, but telling them the charges are on their August invoice.

Confused? So are recipients of the notice:

"Between April and June 2020, some FedEx label changes were not invoiced in a timely manner due to a temporary system malfunction. Missed FedEx label charges were applied to your August invoice and amounted to $(redacted). You can find a record of your transactions for this time period in Seller Hub here. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding."

It came as a surprise to sellers, since it appears eBay had never notified them of the glitch back in June.

One irate seller who turned to Twitter to vent wrote, "Is this how you wish me happy holidays? "(Redacted) We stole $100 bucks from you!"

A seller recently described an issue with FedEx billing in this Letter to the Editor - it's unclear if it's related to the reports coming in today.

If you're having issues with FedEx on eBay, or any other shipping-related issues, let us know.

Got a similar email.  "Between July and August 2020, some FedEx® label charges were not invoiced in a timely manner due to a temporary system malfunction. Missed FedEx label charges were applied to your October invoice and amounted to $19.86. You can find a record of your transactions for this time period in Seller Hub here."

I just checked my invoice and there is no charge for the $19.86.  I cannot bill a customer months later, why should eBay.

And I forgot to mention that the seller hub "here" link in the email just goes to "Manage paid and shipped orders" which only goes back 90 days anyway.

Ebay will never do anything that is going to cost them money, even when its their fault.  Once again pathetic programming by their offshore outside contractors (avoids paying any payroll taxes or health benefits for them also) who still cannot program their way out of a wet paper bag.  When is Ebay going to realize that they have a responsibility to its Sellers to put out a product that functions properly and if they keep making mistakes then that contractor should pay for them, not us?  Once again Ebay has found a way to dig deeper into their sellers pockets without even proving that its charging them correctly now.  To me it just sounds like another way to try and boost 3rd quarter results (that is why it is being charged to August rather than now, plus as another party stated, those sales are gone now anyway so nobody can see if they were actually underbilled or not.  Sounds like out and out theft at this point in time, especially since Ebay never misses anything where the error is not in their favor.  Glad I never used Fed Ex for my shipments based on this money grab by Ebay.

There’s no floor to the theft fraud and deceit on eBay.

They know ty you have no choice, no one to talk to, no ally in the mafia family known as eBay.

Idiot Griff is still asleep - his fake seller protection job pure cronyism, the managed payments team has no direct phone number (like thieves at Vero) - so eBay can do as it pleases “cause what r u going to do about it !?)

SIK is right - the Covid bump eBay got before is disappearing down the rabbit hole and even the Wall Street firms say so. Therefore they make up an under billing issue which is fake to try and bump up the numbers.

Having complete access to our accounts gives them the right to help themselves again,  this wouldn't have been as easy with paypal,  lets just help ourselves(we have total access),  the whole process with managed payments from delayed payouts and ach payments  sure does screw things up.  I can't even imagine if they had a glitch with Fed Ex on labels,  whats next will they help themselves with?

@RL15

"hey you 2 walmart dopes, eat this cost...take one for the team."

You know as well as I do that this is not possible as Ebay considers themselves the team and the Sellers are nothing Noise to them.  All of these Lies and Con Games that Wenig and now Iannone have run or allowed to be run are finally catching up to them as they have now burned almost every person who has bought or sold on FleeceBay.  I really did not think it could get worse than things were under Wenig, but once again Ebay has shown that no matter who they bring in they are still capable of hiring another useless person in management.  All they know how to do is overpay their executives with our hard earned money, as they obviously have no clue how to grow a business like those of us who have been here for 20+ years have done.

Ebay wants total control of all of our businesses but have no idea how to run their own, let alone ours, which we have spent all these years satisfying our customers.  I wonder what Ebays feedback rating would be if they  actually had to allow their "partners" to rate their service and product??

Why not allow the Sellers and even your buyers rate your efforts and see if you manage to maintain a positive number!!!  We know you read these comments Ebay, so why not try that idea and see how it works out?  Oh and it has to be shown to all including the comments that are made by those leaving the feedback.

I received this notice also but it came through my email & has still not come through their message stem which is no big surprise.

My amount was $38.12 which is exactly what my buyers were billed back in July. So technically the money has been sitting in my account since July waiting for it to be invoiced & unless you offer ''free shipping'' the money should be there. It may have been spent on something else but the money was in your account.

Don't get me wrong I agree it would go a long way for eBay to say ''we screwed up & we are going to eat it'' but we all know this is never going to happen.

What I am confused about is how they can apply the missed amounts to your August invoice. I have already paid my August invoice so how can you add anything to it? I have checked my August invoices & it has not changed. The charges have also not been added to my present invoice as of just a few minutes ago but of course that is not to say they will not magically appear on 12/15.

For the record - I dont use Fed Ex - I know that there are some here that do - and more power to you - its just that their services are too much price wise - since I tend to ship smaller lighter items.

That being said - Silver couldnt be more right if he/she tried - the analysis is spot on.

BOD members and the other assorted eBay clowns have zero clue on how to make things work, figure out how they should work and try to grow the business - that its laughable.

Theres SO MUCH unaccounted for cash laying around that its just party central 24/7 over at Walkers.

Some guys 14 yr old daughter experiences something on Amazon and then she tells idiots like GRIFF on the Walmart twins and they wholesale copy the idea - without ever thinking it through.

Ive been on eBay since 1998. What ever few complaints I do get from customers - have either been the item was lost (tracking issues) or the rare defective item. NONE have complained that shipping was slow, none complained that USPS is the wrong carrier and NONE ever complained that I didnt use up my free time on Sunday to ship their item.

ITS ALL IN EBAYS FRAGILE LITTLE MINDS.

No one cares about %5 eBay bucks- I mean its nice but it does nothing to solve any of the many many issues that plague eBay like the 10 plagues in Egypt.

The top of the list of course is Managed Payments - its so bad that even the reps apologize when you can actually get through - they are embarrassed (there are still a few good people out of the 15K that work there).

Most on eBay are vengeful spiteful idiots - who get delight from handing out "punishments" to sellers for being "bad".

We all need LESS eBay interference NOT MORE.

Marni (after reading her statements) sadly joins the "Im a dope and I work at eBay" club ..... but I guess when you make the big bucks you can say almost anything (and if its at eBay and it steals money from sellers - you get raises I guess)

The fun part is if you call ebay and explain the situation the customer service agent will explain that "the seller is responsible for shipping charges". The Philippines customer support at least they seem to understand how to use eBay and 50/50 can help you. The India customer service does not speak enough English to understand what you are taking about.

FedEx is the worst. We had so many issues with them and their dimensions.  They would say things like, oh the flap probably wasn't taped all the way and came up and the machines scanned it. Instead of $12, you owe us $75. Tape the flaps better. I bet they gave ebay a huge bill and ebay is now passing it on.  I used to get so stressed out with FedEx's invoices every week, that I realized it wasn't worth the minimal savings.
