The US Postal Service understands the challenges presented by the pandemic this year. It
issued a press release today titled, "Despite 2020’s Best Efforts, the Holidays Are Approaching."
In it, it recommended that sellers who send orders to customers for arrival in time for Christmas send First Class Packages (up to 15.99 ounces) by December 18, and Priority Mail packages by December 19th.

Interestingly, the USPS is recommending shippers again mail by the preceding Friday (for First Class) and Saturday (for Priority Mail), but that gives the USPS an extra 2 days to deliver before the holiday.
(Christmas Day fell on Wednesday last year. This year, it falls on Friday.)
Retailers are doing everything they can to get people to shop early - if they don't succeed, a last-minute surge in online shopping could strain the US Postal Service and other carriers. (Weather incidents are always a wildcard as well.)
The Postal Service expects the period of December 14-21 to be the season's busiest for mailing, shipping and delivery.
