Etsy Is Experiencing a Payment Processing Glitch
By: Ina Steiner
Etsy is experiencing a payment processing glitch this afternoon / evening - hat tip to seller CindyLouWho_2 on Twitter
. One seller said two customers out of her 7 orders that were "stuck" have requested refunds - although, as another seller pointed out, can't be done until the orders are processed.
Etsy reported the issue on its Status page at 5:44 pm Eastern. The incident report is titled, "We're currently investigating issues with delays in payment processing." As of this writing, Etsy's latest update at 7 pm indicates it is still investigating the issue.
A seller first reported the issue
at 1:32 pm on the Etsy discussion boards. "The last 5 orders in our store have not had their payments processed. We sell digital download and have customers unable to access any of their files. Their orders all say 'Not Paid'. One customer attempted another payment type and still no payments are being processed."
The problem is concerning to buyers and sellers of digital downloads (which are supposed to be downloaded instantly), but some sellers say it's happening to orders for physical goods as well. One seller theorized it may be specific to a certain type of payment as was the case several years ago.
(One can just hear eBay sellers clenching their teeth at the prospect of its version of Etsy Payments called eBay Managed Payments, which eBay will eventually make mandatory for all sellers.)
Update: moments ago at 8:03 pm, Etsy updated the status of the glitch: "payment processing is recovering from the delays we've experienced."
