Sellers are buzzing about Poshmark's launch of a Home Goods category. The popular mobile selling app focuses on fashion, but Poshmark will soon make an official launch of Home Goods - making rivals eBay, Etsy, and Mercari sit up and take notice.
Sellers were able to begin listing in the Home Goods category on May 30, though it's not yet displaying as a "Market." The help pages explain what kinds of Home Goods are allowed on Poshmark, which include Accents; Wall Art; Holiday; Bedding; Bath; Party Supplies; Office; and Storage & Organization.
Some users expressed concern about shipping costs. Buyers pay a flat fee based on weight, all in keeping with the site's focus on simplicity. Currently Poshmark sends sellers a USPS Priority Mail label when an item sells. For those not familiar with the app, here's a
summary from the help pages:
I shipped my sale. How do I get paid?
When your item sells, we automatically send you an email with a pre-paid, pre-addressed USPS Priority Mail shipping label attached. Please package your item, print the label, and adhere it to your package. Then drop it off at the post office or schedule a pick up with USPS.com.
After the buyer receives the item, we release the money to you within 3 days of delivery into your Poshmark account. You can withdraw the money via direct deposit to your bank account or request a check.
Have you tried selling on Poshmark? Would you dip your toe in the Home Goods category? While Posh is limiting what kinds of items can be sold in the new category, should sites like eBay, Etsy, and Mercari be worried nonetheless?
