Amazon Denies It Pressures Sellers to Use Its Logistics

Sellers often complain that Amazon forces a "race to the bottom" on prices. But according to Bloomberg, a seller sent a letter to federal lawmakers making the opposite argument. He accuses Amazon of forcing sellers to use its logistics services, "which in turn forces them to raise prices for consumers."

In his letter, the seller accuses Amazon of "tying" its marketplace and logistics services together, according to the news report, "an antitrust violation in which a company uses dominance in one market to give itself an advantage in another market where it's less established."

Bloomberg (via TTNews.com) said Amazon disputed many of the merchants' allegations in a emailed statement, telling the news outlet that its logistics prices are competitive and denying that sellers are penalized for using other delivery options.

If you sell on Amazon, do you feel pressured to use Amazon's logistics? Do you feel using Amazon logistics allows you to save money, or does it force you to raise your prices?

Do you feel sellers who use Amazon logistics are better protected than those who do not?

@RL15: Really?

Have you even read the article?

Okay, so maybe you don't use FBA, but what about being coerced into using Amazon Shipping to keep from receiving negative feedback? What about being forced to use more expensive shipping on SFP orders when the USPS would be just fine? Do you really think Amazon doesn't have back-door deals with UPS and Fed-Ex so they profit every time a seller uses them for seller-fulfilled shipping?

It's all about Amazon making more money one way or another. They may ''couch'' it as being done to benefit the customer, but nothing Amazon does anymore has anything at all to do with the customer. It's all about profits, control and market share! Get Real.

What is Amazon Logistics?

All I see is my prices crashing lower and lower everyday.  One item I was making $2.90 each 6 months ago, I now would lose $1.46 each keeping it at the same price I sold a lot of them for 6 months ago, with approximately the same number of other FBA competitors.  Two of the "big boys" in my category have their repricers at war on this item, with plenty of stock to back them up.  Not sure if they're trying to clean out competitors and then raise their price back up after us small fry are gone, or if they're buying wholesale and are ok with smaller ROI.

I've also been forced out of a few items in the last few months because their bots found a "competitive" price that would force me to put in a sale price of maybe $.01, before the Potential High Price errors cease, and they would allow my item to be Active.  Of course, the bots are not smart enough to figure out that the competitive price they found is a dump price from retailers on items discontinued by the manufacturer.

When NO ONE has the item any longer on AZ that I want to list in either FBA or FBM, and I'm not allowed to list my product at ANY price (above their fees), how is that a "Good Customer Experience"??

If all this is not a "race to the bottom", I don't know what is.
