No matter where people are shopping, they often turn to Amazon's website to scan reviews to see how others have rated a product. Now imagine walking into a brick-and-mortar store knowing everything for sale has earned a 4- or 5-star review on Amazon.
That's the concept behind Amazon 4-Star, a new store opening in the Soho district of New York City.
In describing the store, Amazon said, "We started with some of the most popular categories on Amazon.com including devices, consumer electronics, kitchen, home, toys, books, and games, and chose only the products that customers have rated 4 stars and above, or are top sellers, or are new and trending."
Sometimes you're not sure what you want, and Amazon has factored serendipity into the store design:
"Throughout the store there are features like "Most-Wished-For," a collection of products that are most added to Amazon.com Wish Lists; "Trending Around NYC," hot products that NYC-area customers are buying on Amazon.com; "Frequently Bought Together"; and Amazon Exclusives. These features, along with customer review cards with quotes from actual customer reviews, make it fun and easy to shop."
All customers are welcome, and members of Amazon Prime pay the Amazon.com price in store.
As EcommerceBytes readers may recall, Amazon has had to crackdown on those who have gamed reviews for their products, and it seems certain the company will remain motivated to keep reviews honest and above board.
Amazon is also leveraging the new physical store to promote devices that run on its Alexa voice technology, including smart-home systems. It may even help boost the number of Prime subscribers.
We're not sure how sellers should think of the new Amazon 4-Star store; we've sent an inquiry asking if Amazon will include items from third-party and/or FBA sellers in the new store.
