Etsy Tests Buyer Photo Section in Listings

Etsy is testing a rather radical feature this month: displaying photographs on sellers' listings pages that buyers have uploaded when they submit product reviews.

While a standard feature on Amazon, many people might be surprised to learn Etsy allows buyers to upload photos with their product reviews using its mobile app. Etsy launched the feature in 2015 - see a screenshot of an example in the 2015 post, "Featuring Buyer Photos on Five-Star Reviews."

On its help page about the existing buyer photos-in-reviews feature, Etsy said buyer-submitted photos of items "in the wild" can help convince shoppers to buy the featured products.

Currently shoppers viewing listing pages can either click on a link to reviews to read them, or they can view a handful of reviews (without buyer photos) in a section of the listing pages.

With the current test that kicked of this month, Etsy explained, "We're testing a new section called "Photos in reviews" on the listing page which will surface the photos buyers have posted in reviews." The goal of the new feature is to "give shoppers more confidence in making a purchasing decision by viewing photos from other buyers."

Only a percentage of buyers and sellers will see the new feature, and it's worth noting Etsy's standard advice regarding "experiments," warning sellers not to make changes based on tests it runs, as they may not be permanent.

While Etsy explained that shop owners can remove unflattering or offensive buyer-submitted photos from their reviews, the increased visibility of buyer photos means sellers will likely wish to be vigilant in checking them.

Etsy does not think when they roll these features out, and do not realize how they cost them loss sales, allowing a buyer to post photo's is just a receipt for loss sales

And again they roll out greed based features like etsy plus.. they think it will get sellers to buy into etsy plus, and sure they will gain some money, and it might be good for buyers, but the final scenario will be more sellers won't use etsy plus, therefore more buyers won't have this feature described below, in the end, etsy loses more then they gain

just think about what etsy is saying below, and how stupid it is, a feature that only helps certain buyers not all

Etsy Plus helps bring shoppers back

GREAT IDEA !
It shows my invention in a Real Life Setting.
I also have a New Invention that will be debuting in a week or so, it's long over due.
So far, the new season is shaping up to be quite an event  :o)

Another of Etsy's mad ideas done without consultation with the wisdom of the seller community.

Etsy sellers of unique items carefully craft their photos to show the object in its most flattering light - unlike sellers on some other platforms who put up gloomy unedited photos snapped with a poor quality phone camera. We dont want our beautifully crafted shots spoiled by the amateurish efforts which some semi-drunken buyer may have made at a party a la facebook!

Etsy plus is only useful for people who make things in multiples, i.e.: hand crafted, craft supplies etc.

For the rest of us that sell antiques, vintage and truly one of a kind items, other than the 5 photo display at the top of the page for the Etsy plus is totally useless.

I have to wonder if they realize there is more on the site than the items in my first paragraph?  That there are people outside of the US for whom these extra charges in US dollars can be a killer.

5%  US on shipping
5% US on sales
$13.00 / month US for Etsy plan

And from the dozens of people with whom I have spoken, sales are absolutely dismal.  I mean, people that sell like made have had 5 sales since June.

Its insanity.

I don't have a problem with it,  Some buyers have uploaded some amazing pics to my store of how they've upcycled what they bought, and it has inspired other buyers to buy that product.
