eBay Asks Users to Pitch In and Help on Discussion Boards
By: Ina Steiner
eBay is asking users to pitch in on the discussion boards to help people with questions by launching the Community Mentors Program. This follows on the heels of eBay's request for sellers to help it build its product catalog with the launch of the Product Experts Program
Both moves come after eBay laid off employees in June and July as part of cost-cutting measures.
eBay CEO Devin Wenig acknowledged to Wall Street analysts on Wednesday that he has killed some programs after reporting another quarter of single-digit GMV growth.
One of the perks of becoming a community "mentor" under the new program is the "opportunity to shape new features for the Community." That is reminiscent of eBay's Voices program where users were provided information about new features in advance.
Other perks of the new program include:
- Access to a private Mentor's Lounge where you can connect with peers.
- Direct access to eBay's Community team, including monthly video chats.
- An exclusive badge on your Community profile
- Invitations to exclusive events and opportunities
Among the qualifications: mentors must post using their eBay trading ID. Learn more about the program on this page
