eBay Upsets Buyers over Flash Sale Snafu
By: Ina Steiner
eBay extended its latest buyer promotion by 3 hours after a glitch on Friday, but many buyers complained they were never able to take advantage of the promised savings. The flash sale
offered buyers 15% off on orders greater than $50 on Friday between 8 am - 4 pm PT, and eBay later extended the promotion until 7 pm PT.
It appears eBay was aware of the problem, posting on Facebook
at 4 pm PT: "Extended to 7PM PT. Today only! The savings are strong with this one." But we could find no official announcement about the problem or how eBay proposed to make it right for disappointed shoppers.
eBay did respond to a buyer with the following tweet
in it which it seemed to blame PayPal for the problem:
Hey there - sorry for the delay! Yes, PayPal did report that there was an issue with checkout on eBay yesterday, and it has since been resolved. Were you able to make the payment? ~Tyler S.
10:24 AM - 5 May 2018
One buyer said the issue cost them a savings of $70 - "I am very upset and disappointed. It seems like a bait and switch situation where the coupon doesn't work and they hope you'll go ahead and buy the stuff anyway."
eBay promos have been beset by problems of late - in fact, sellers
are struggling with a major snafu
involving international listings as we speak.
Buyers are also complaining about another technical issue: they are unable to sort search results by time on the eBay Mobile App - people are complaining loudly on Twitter and in the App store. Avid users often sort results by "Time ending soonest" and "Newly listed" and are clearly frustrated at the loss of functionality.
An eBay moderator addressed one buyer's complaint on Twitter
: "Sorry for the trouble! This is not intended, and our mobile team is investigating this issue as we speak. Thanks for the heads up. If you need to sort your search results, you can use the eBay site as a workaround for the time being.
