eBay Takes Ownership of Promotion Snafu

eBay is running several free-listing promotions, but one is not working as it should.

Sellers invited to participate in one of the promotions are finding that they are required to use up their monthly allotment of free listings before the promotion kicks in.

However, sellers received an email this evening from eBay acknowledging the problem and offering them a credit that ensures they receive the full benefits of the promotion.

We are reaching out to alert you of a technical issue related to the promotion, "7 days, no insertion fees: 100 extra fixed priced listings!" for which you recently RSVP'd.

Currently, the 100 free fixed price listings offered during this promotion are applied only after your standard 50 free listings have already been used. This was not the intent of the promotion.

To ensure that your free monthly listings allotment will not be impacted as you list during this promotion, we will be crediting your May invoice for up to 50 insertion fee charges.

We apologize for any inconvenience this error has caused. Thank you for selling with eBay.

A footnote spelled out additional information about the credit:

You will receive a Credit on your May Invoice for up to 50 fixed price or auction format listing fee charges incurred between May 1, 2017 at 00:00:01 PT (12:00AM plus one second) and May 31 at 23:59:59 PT (11:59PM plus 59 seconds). The Credit will not apply to final value fees or optional advanced listing upgrade and supplemental service fees. Fees for optional listing upgrades (such as reserve price, Gallery Plus, listing in 2 categories, etc.) will not be credited.

The Credit will not apply to insertion fees in the following categories: eBay Motors Passenger Vehicles, Motorcycles, Boats, Power Sports, Other Vehicles, Motors Local Market, Real Estate, Classified Ad listings, Heavy Equipment, Concession Trailers & Carts, Imaging & Aesthetics Equipment, and Commercial Printing Presses.

It's rare for eBay to step up to the plate and even acknowledge the problem - and then offer compensation to sellers. Kudos to whoever made this right.

"Kudos to whoever made this right."

It must be a new employee. I hope this person doesn't get reprimanded.

"Kudos to whoever made this right."

Uh huh.

But, just how badly performing and error prone operationally does any entity have to be before it becomes reasonable to applaud proactive corrective action (that ought to be an expectation anyway), for 'issues' that shouldn't arise in the first place?

I'll hold my accolades back for those who perform above and beyond what should be a baseline expectation.

WOW Ebay took ownership of .000009 of the glitchy platform they run.

YAWN let us know when they take ownership of the entire platform. Until then this is just noise to pacify the minons.

That is great news for those affected by the problem.  Good to hear that Ebay stepped up and corrected the problem responsibly.  It doesn't happen often but certainly a relief for those affected by the issue.

I called Customer Support, when I noticed this problem.  I spoke to two reps, who said "Something's not right."   One actually called me back again a day later, to say that the tech team was still working on the problem.

Then I never heard anything back.  And I certainly never got that e-mail.

Now, it looks like they are charging me 1ΒΆ for each of my listings so far this month (instead of FREE.)   And I don't see any mention of remuneration for their mistake.   I guess it's time to call them back again.
